POSITION: ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT COACH, CALGARY SPARTANS TRACK CLUB LOCATION: CALGARY, ALBERTA (Olympic Oval, Jack Simpson track, Foothills Stadium, 7 Chiefs Sportplex) DURATION: 1-YEAR CONTRACT – RENEWABLE SUBJECT TO ANNUAL REVIEW The Athlete Development Track and Field Coach reports to the Calgary Spartan’s Board of Directors, and works primarily in the development of athletes who are new to the sport of track and field. Working closely with other Spartan coaches, new athletes will receive training and preparedness in the fundamentals of track and field, ideally with the goal of moving to specialized coaching in Distance,Sprints, Jumps or Throws once they are aged 13 and older.Responsibilities: The duties of the Athlete Development Track and Field Coach include the following:1. Plan and implement pre- competition season, in- competition season, and off-season training programs in distance, sprints, jumps and throws for youth aged 9 to 13.2. Prepare, organize, and conduct team practices. Team practice is Monday, Wednesday andFriday from 5:30-7pm. Specific training locations include:1. Outdoor season: Foothills Track and local hills2. Indoor season: 7 Chiefs sportplex and Jack Simpson track at U of C3. Assist in identifying and recruiting potential athletes, in accordance with Athletics Alberta regulations, guidelines, and standards.4. Provide guidance to athletes on a range of sports related issues (e.g. nutrition, injury prevention, etc.).5. Work with athletes to set measurable, realistic short, medium, and long-term goals; act as a resource for athletes who need specific direction on track disciplines.6. Create a positive training environment that respects all appropriate safety guidelines and standards and allows athletes to achieve their maximum potential.7. Attend competitions on weekends during competition season.8. Prepare athletes for competition; approve registration of athletes for appropriate events; support athlete and parent awareness of event locations and times; accompany athletes to competitions; provide appropriate supervision; submit coach’s travel claims to club bookkeeper in a timely manner.9. Support Calgary Spartans programming with enthusiasm and encouragement of other athletes and coaches both within the AD group and other training groups. This may include updates to the board where relevant and attendance at group events and activities.10. Liaise/ work collaboratively with parents and others who may be training at at the same time11. Comply with club policies and procedures; ensure athletes are aware of and adhere to club policies and procedures12. At all times, act as a positive role model.Education: Club Coach Certified in track and field (or equivalent) and Sport Coach Trained, or willingness to obtain certification. First Aid and CPR CertificationExperience: A broad knowledge of Track and Field is required, as athletes will be trained in a variety of disciplines.Experience in distance events, sprints, jumps and throws.Experience in coaching track and field.Skills: Instructional and coaching skills.Oral and written communication skills.Planning and organizational skills.Ability to maintain records and finances.A current police background check is requiredJob Type: Part-timePart-time hours: 8 per weekSalary: From $750.00 per monthFlexible Language Requirement:
