With AMD, you can get hands-on experience that will give you a competitive edge in the workforce.Location: Markham, OntarioThis is an on-site role as the hiring team will require the student to work in the Markham office throughout the entire duration of the co-op work term.Program Term:12-month position from May 6, 2024 - April 25, 2025About the DepartmentIn the discreated GPU hardware design team, we design high-technology platforms for world class products based on AMD #39;s Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). Our team plays a major part in architecting and shaping every graphics board offered by AMD. As we always face more stringent demands in terms of performance and efficiency these designs are essential to maximize the performance from our GPUs in an efficient and cost-effective manner.The RoleThe successful candidate would be responsible in aiding the continuous development and validation of AMD GPU #39;s hardware electrical systems, with a primary focus on the voltage regulators, power sub-circuits, and our internally developed power characterization tool.What you #39;ll be doing

  • Capturing and documenting the system level requirements of new generation of AMD GPUs
  • Preparing schematics as well as interacting and supervising the PCB layout and mechanical team in developing robust implementations
  • Debugging new designs and investigating power quality with comprehensive laboratory work executed in the context of exhaustive test plans
  • Development and maintenance of the characterization tool #39;s FPGA firmware
  • Working closely with the tool #39;s software front-end to create a robust platform
  • Documenting details about analyses, design, and testing methodologies
  • Laboratory testing/debugging/bring-up of consumer electronics and internal engineering boards
What you #39;ll learn
  • Industry exclusive power design experience with DC-DC converters in low voltage, high current applications
  • Hands-on hardware system research and development experience
  • Understanding schematics, board-level layouts, and circuits of professionally designed electronics
  • Designing firmware and software for custom applications
  • Complete process of graphics board design cycle from schematic to validation. The products you help characterize/design will be on shelves shortly after your internship term ends!
Key Qualifications
  • 3rd year student pursuing a bachelor #39;s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering or a related discipline
  • Returning to school following the co-op term
  • Good understanding or principles of computer system architecture, power electronics,and analog and digital electronics
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in hardware design languages (HDL) such as Verilog, System Verilog or VHDL
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment: oscilloscope, function generator and bench power supply
  • Communication skills and the ability to write technical documentations
