As such, this position will collaborate and coordinate with relevant school districts representatives of the Okanagan and of the Interior in relation to the mission and priorities of the Okanagan School of Education (OSE). Specifically, this position will develop financial strategies for receiving programs funding, ensure the optimal use of this funding; design and deliver PD programs, services, and resources; and develop professional placements and experiential learning programs for BEd candidates in school districts and liaise with school and community partners. This position entails working closely with the BEd French Pathways Coordinator and other OSE staff members to collaborate in the ongoing development of the BEd French Pathways, particularly through the development of harmonious relations with regional partners.As a University representative in schools and communities for the Okanagan School of Education in the Faculty of Education, the position also entails being part of a team charged with facilitating connections among teacher candidates, practicing teachers, language coordinators, faculty, and community partners, purposefully bringing theory and practice together to enlarge and deepen professional knowledge.Organizational Status:This position reports directly to the OSE BEd French Pathways Coordinator and the Director of Undergraduate Programs and works in close relationship with faculty and staff within the Bachelor of Education program and across the Okanagan School of Education.The Okanagan School of Education includes 16 full-time faculty, sessional lecturers, as well as adjunct faculty members ranging from 10-20 per year. The graduate program comprises approximately 100 students pursuing Masters (MA, MEd) and doctoral programs. The undergraduate program comprises approximately 140 post-bac students pursuing a B. Ed. degree over 16 months. Additionally, there is coursework for ongoing professional development throughout each year, including Summer Institute. The Okanagan School of Education offers intellectual community and supports for educators across all phases of their professional growth. Faculty maintain active and ongoing research programs. Faculty research grants support the employment of student researchers, both graduate and undergraduate students. There are 3 BCGEU and 3 Management and Professional staff supporting the operations and administration of the Department.Work Performed:Professional Development Coordination

  • Designs and delivers PD programs, services, and resources for regional school districts, French teachers and students
  • Conducts analysis on the needs of regional partners for PD services and programs that will lead to PD projects and initiatives
  • Oversees the administration of Ministry Funding for regional PD, develops financial strategies and ensures the maximum use of this funding.
  • Prepares statistics for reporting to inform marketing, recruitment and budget decisions.
  • Prepares statistics and summary for the Ministry of Education reports on funding.
  • Conducts needs assessment amongst educational stakeholders in the field (French teachers, principals, directors of instruction, language coordinators) to support PD for French teachers in the Okanagan and the Interior.
  • Designs programs and open-source teaching resources in French for French language teachers with pedagogically appropriate materials, including the development of resources with Indigenous content and approaches embedding First People’s Principles of Learning, in consultation with Indigenous scholars and educators in the Okanagan School of Education and/or the community.
  • Develops and implements marketing strategies for PD programs
  • Facilitates the development of a collaborative, inclusive, inquiry-oriented professional learning culture with partner schools/school districts
Liaison/Representation
  • Develops professional placements and experiential learning programs for BEd candidates in school districts and liaise with school and community partners
    • Develops and maintains a regional PD network amongst educational stakeholders of the Okanagan and BC Interior.
    • Collaborates with regional school district partners (SD French consultants, SD PD representatives, SILC committee…) and with provincial organizations (e.g., BCLCA) to develop professional learning initiatives that support BEd French Pathways students and French teachers in the Okanagan and Interior.
    • Develops and maintains active connections, and collaborates with the French education community including the Department of LLED (UBC Vancouver campus) and Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies (UBC Okanagan Campus).
    • Develops opportunities in French teacher professional development and language development education at UBC (such as Institut de français, UBC à Québec, Gramligne, Post-BEd programs, MEd in French Education, etc.).
French Pathways Development
  • Assists in overseeing the administration of Ministry Funding for French Pathways PD within the Okanagan School of Education and assists in preparing required paperwork and reports.
  • Seeks and develops opportunities for French pre-service teachers to complete field experiences regionally.
Other
  • May collaborate on other duties with the BEd French Pathways Coordinator and the OSE Director of Undergraduate Programs.
Consequence of Error/Judgement:This position plays a critical role in developing positive and harmonious relationships with regional school district partners.Inappropriate judgment, inability to develop such relationships, and incorrect or inappropriate decisions may harm the BEd program’s ability to meet its goals and may directly affect the reputation and credibility of the Okanagan School of Education, Faculty of Education of UBC, locally, nationally, and internationally.Supervision Received:Works autonomously under the supervision of the Director of Undergraduate Programs, with input from the other Directors within the Okanagan School of Education. All decisions and work conducted by this position is subject to review, approval and supervision by the leadership team within the Okanagan School of Education.Supervision Given:The Director of Undergraduate Programs and the other members of the leadership team are also available regarding policy and its application to assessing teacher candidate performance. It is expected that this position will work as a member of a team and will provide support and mentorship to other team members as appropriate.Education/Work Experience:Minimum
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of three to four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred
  • Master-level degree in Education is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated relevant classroom practice/experience.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with instructional leadership experience in school district settings.
