The incumbent works directly with Professor Honey, the DBS (deep brain stimulation) clinic nurses, the functional neurosurgery fellow, and graduate students.Organizational StatusThe UBC Faculty of Medicine Department of Surgery educates students at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, and pursues research to make innovative advancements in knowledge and practice to improve health. The Department consists of more than 400 physicians, surgeons, scientists and educators and over 70 administrative, research and technical staff in nine divisions distributed across British Columbia. Specialty training programs are offered in Cardiac Surgery, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Thoracic Surgery and Vascular Surgery. The Department is also home to the Branch for International Surgery (BIS) and the Centre of Excellence for Simulation Education & Innovation (CESEI).The candidate reports directly to Dr. Honey, Principal Investigator. The incumbent will work and interact with the rest of the study team, and staff in the UBC Department of Surgery.Work PerformedAssists with all aspects of the research endeavors within functional neurosurgery.Assists with drafting, revising, and submitting research grants of missions.Coordinates research patient visits to the clinic, including tracking visit and test times, and sending reminders to patients.Administers and documents patient test results into database.Tracks the status of research trials into database.Administers and processes research funding; including maintaining accounts, flagging expenses to PI, processing financial reimbursements for research study expenses, and preparing JVs.Performs other responsibilities, as required.Consequence of Error/JudgementAll work is directly reviewed by Dr. Honey, PI. The TRA 2 is required to conduct the research activities in an ethical manner and to maintain strict confidentiality with regards to information, particularly about study participants. Along with other colleagues, the TRA 2 is accountable for conduct concerning participant-related activities to the Principal Investigator.The TRA 2 works within well-defined guidelines and procedures, but exercises judgment in establishing priorities and carrying tasks through to completion.
