Job Description

Explore our amazing new opportunities.Summary:Reporting to the Director, Strategic Communications and Partnerships, the Content Strategist is responsible for developing and implementing a content strategy that support S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s objectives and priorities related to branding, advocacy, and community relations. The Content Strategist will be responsible for designing a range of content for print, social web and digital platforms, including graphic design and videos, and will work strategically to drive audiences, generate traffic, increase brand awareness and boost engagement with various stakeholders. This position also ensures S.U.C.C.E.S.S. brand guidelines are consistent across all materials, social media strategy and marketing to secure the reputation of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. across a range of audiences.Employment Type: Permanent Part-Time (17.5 hours per week)Reports to: Director, Strategic Communications and PartnershipsKey Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plans and implements a digital and social content strategy based on S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s objectives and priorities related to branding, advocacy, and community relations together with the Director
  • Designs graphics and content, and oversees sharing across print and digital platforms including intranet, social media, e-newsletter, website, graphics and videos, and other materials
  • Aligns content with S.U.C.C.E.S.S. priorities and strategies related to branding, advocacy, and community relations, and evaluates these tactics
  • Manages corporate social media channels using SEO best practices, provides regular trend analysis, metrics, evaluation and data reporting to demonstrate trends, and develops new engagement strategies
  • Monitors, collates, analyzes coverage of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. in social media, prepares engagement reports, and monitors social communities; advises Director of risks, issues, opportunities
  • Maintains and implements monthly editorial calendars for social media, e-newsletters, and other special projects
  • Supports programs with their use of social media for program promotional purposes to ensure it is aligned with social media best practices, including training and educating staff in correct use and outcome evaluation
  • Advises leaders and staff on communications best practices, provides consultation, guidance and planning for leaders to ensure effective and impactful communications and marketing standards
  • Writes, edits, proofreads, and designs a wide range of clear, polished content for different audiences on various communication platforms such as social media messages, news releases, website content, client/volunteer/donor stories, and presentations
  • Supports the roll-out of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. brand guidelines across the agency by ensuring appropriate use of design assets (e.g. logos, fonts, graphics/templates) as well as consistent tone, style, and voice of branded content, including training and educating staff in their use
  • Maintains and updates content on S.U.C.C.E.S.S. website and intranet to ensure it is relevant, up-to-date, and aligned with S.U.C.C.E.S.S. priorities and brand guidelines
  • Works alongside outside agencies to manage assets
  • Manages mailing lists and distribute external communications via Envoke software, including training staff in correct usage
  • Supports the implementation of major S.U.C.C.E.S.S. community relations events and activities with live, in-person communications and social media support
  • Prioritizes data-driven evaluation in designing and measuring communication outcomes to demonstrate behavior change and conducts analysis of business communication initiatives to meet and measure KPIs and prove results
  • Facilitates professional knowledge of internal communications and external community relations among staff and provides consultation, guidance and planning for leaders to ensure effective and impactful stakeholder relations, including advising for S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation
  • Develops and oversees the use of print and digital communication tools, resources, messaging, guidelines, best practices, and processes following brand guidelines and incorporates storytelling and brand journalism in supporting the organization’s internal communications, government advocacy and community relations strategies
  • Collaborates with the Communications Manager in developing brand-compliant internal and external communications materials and campaigns to advance strategic goals
Education, Training & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, graphic design, social media management, journalism or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in communications, public relations, journalism, graphic design or marketing, preferably in the social services sector
  • Professional accreditation or certification in related fields are an asset
  • Experience in designing content for print and digital, social platforms and working with content management systems like Envoke and Wordpress
  • Experience working with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva and other relevant software
  • Training in data-driven marketing and experience managing paid social media campaigns
  • Knowledge of intercultural and social issues and culturally-safe service practices
  • Knowledge of human rights-based approach and principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility
  • Knowledge of social services sector in the British Columbia and Canadian context
  • Knowledge of communications industry best practices
  • Knowledge of technology, current practices and trends for effective communication on print and digital platforms
Job Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to build a modern content strategy that aligns with the organization’s objectives
  • Ability to design compelling, engaging content for print and digital platforms including social media, e-newsletters, videos, photos and website material
  • Ability to plan, shoot and edit short live videos, optimized for social media platforms
  • Professional level skill in graphic design
  • Excellent technical ability in MS Office, Wordpress, Envoke, Social Media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn), Google Analytics and graphic design using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva and other relevant software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to use inclusive language and tailor messaging for diverse audiences
  • Ability to interpret and conduct data and trend analysis of website and social media metrics
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and deal with emerging priorities
  • Excellent time management, attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent project planning, presentation and consulting skills
  • Additional languages are considered an asset
