The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.Position title: 1st CookDepartment: Food & BeverageReports to: Sous ChefSupervises: 2nd Cook, 3rd Cook, Kitchen HelperEmployee status: Full-time, Permanent, Hourly (2pm to 10pm availability required)Hours per week: up to 37.5Compensation: $22.00 per hour, plus gratuities & benefits (health and dental plan after 3-months)Position Purpose:The 1st Cook is responsible for the day-to-day kitchen operations, including, but not limited to, preparing and executing menus according to AMS recipes. The 1st Cook assists in providing the highest quality and presentation of the food and helps in providing a safe and healthy work environment by following AMS Health & Safety standards. The ideal candidate is a leader by example, ensuring that the team members adhere to AMS standards at all times.
