Job Description

Were looking for a photographer and videographer to join our team! Do you love art and design Do you want to help us make artistic short videos and elegant still photographs Are you skilled in photo editing and have out of the box ideas of how to make videos that will be seen as art piecesWe are looking for someone autonomous, versatile and who enjoys creating beautiful visual art.Must be a student. We are flexible for work hours and can take students interested in part time (minimum 10-15 hours per week) or full time COOP or internship work. We can also work around a students school schedule.Umbra & Lux is a Vancouver based startup (1000 Parker Street Studios) that combines art, technology and minimalist designs to create environmentally sensitive sculptural lighting. We aim to create beautiful objects that respect our planet by using eco-friendly design, the latest low energy LED technologies and as little material as possible.We are also developing various new clean tech products (not on our website) that will contribute to a net zero carbon future. We strongly believe that for the zero carbon revolution to firmly take hold we will need to make clean tech products appealing and that collaborations with artist can help us get there much more efficiently while making it a fun journey.Primary responsibilities would include:

  • Photography of Umbra & Lux products in our studio and in real life settings. You must have a good eye for compositions and be knowledgeable with studio lights, color balance, etc. You will have to edit the files digitally and put them in the appropriate format for different uses.
  • Make creative and playful videos of our products. We want to showcase what we are making leveraging visual art. Some of the work will be a little more corporate and traditional but much of it would be more visual art than commercial.
  • Uploading photos onto different platforms, like our website, Wescover, Houzz etc. could be part of the work if possible but this is not a primary task.
We will work with the videographer and photographer to come up with interesting and fun visual pieces that will get noticed. We will also attribute credit to the photographers and videographers so this could be a great way for a talented but undiscovered student to build a quality portfolio.Although we would prefer someone who does both photography and videography we are open to splitting the job in two.Key Requirements:- Photography skills- Strong organizational skills- Autonomous- Creative thinking- Eager to learn our business- Attention to details is primordial- Must own your own photography equipment- Must own a computer and appropriate softwares- Interested in working with a small team in a less corporate environment where self-initiative and wearing many hats is essentialContract length: 4 to 8 months and the possibility of a longer term relationshipApplication deadline: 2021-11-15Expected start date: Flexible but as soon as possibleJob Types: Full-time, Part-time, Internship, ApprenticeshipSalary: $18.00-$22.00 per hourContract length: 4-8 monthsJob Types: Full-time, Part-time, Internship, ApprenticeshipSalary: $18.00-$22.00 per hourCOVID-19 considerations:All coworkers have received at least 2 doses of the Covid vaccine.
