Job Description

Hill + Knowlton Strategies is looking for an Assistant Consultant with a passion for consumer PR to join our Western Canada team based out of Vancouver. The successful candidate would join us in working with some of the most well-respected and compelling brands in Canada across a range of sectors, including consumer packaged goods, food and beverage, travel and tourism, home furnishing/appliances, financial services, and more.Our ideal candidate is a passionate team player, who can jump in and support across programs, learn quickly, and take charge of assigned tasks. Assistant Consultants support our client teams on a wide range of projects including media relations, influencer engagement, digital advocacy, events, research, data tracking, and more. We are looking for not only incredible talent, but also someone with a positive attitude, optimistic energy, solutions-focused mindset, and a passion for communications, the H+K brand, and our clients.Our people bring their individualism and creativity to work every day and love what they do.Here’s what you’d be doing:

  • Supporting client programs under the direction of the direct manager and other senior practitioners, as assigned.
  • Assisting client account leads in account management activities.
  • Compiling media lists and identifying social media targets.
  • Supporting the writing of media and message materials such as media pitch notes, news releases, briefing documents, and more.
  • Conducting media relations to secure interviews, news coverage, and attendance at client events (both virtual and in-person.
  • Building relationships with media, key opinion leaders, and social media influencers, staying abreast of changes in those areas – with a key focus on the consumer/lifestyle space and trends.
  • Monitoring traditional and social media using Cision, Meltwater and other sources, preparing reports using customized tools for clients, and developing insights and recommendations based on findings.
  • Assisting in the execution and measurement of influencer programs using tools such as CreatorIQ.
  • Developing content for various social media and digital channels and understanding their roles in integrated PR and communications campaigns.
  • Providing updates to teammates about program progress and proactively recommending adjustments based on experience and feedback.

What you’ll need to get here:
  • 1-2 years of work experience in a communications role (internship/volunteer experience applicable)
  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited post-secondary educational institution or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail
  • The ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work accordingly
  • An understanding of both traditional PR and social program execution
  • Experience working with social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, and others, as well as excitement and curiosity to explore emerging platforms.
  • Experience with social media community management and/or digital ad buying would be considered assets.
  • Knowledge and interest in pop culture, trends, and brand marketing
