This 111-year old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of approximately $58 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams: the 15 day annual summer Fair which averages 800,000 guests each year, Playland amusement park which welcomes 375,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, year-round events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance. What will you do this yearIn your role as an Assistant Manager of Food and Beverage, your primary accountabilities will be to:
  • Assist the Manager, Food & Beverage with the planning and execution of Playland food outlets and events/functions
  • Assist with the management and execution of year-round events, including catered events/functions, such as banquets, meetings, and concerts in the off season
  • Assist with the management of a large complement of frontline employees (approx. 500 seasonal staff); provide instructions and direction to staff while troubleshooting food and beverage-related issues during events
  • Create staffing schedules while ensuring that there are appropriate staffing levels for Playland F&B
  • Oversee the recruitment, orientations, and training of new employees as needed
  • Oversee functions related to inventory administration, including but not limited to, ordering, receiving, and inventorying food and beverage products
  • Continuously strive to improve service standards and accountability by following up on and resolving any issues or concerns related to the Food & Beverage department
  • Uphold a clean, well-maintained, and safe working environment
  • Enforce policies and procedures in accordance with the Food & Beverage Department, FOODSAFE guidelines, Serving it Right, and all applicable legislation and company policies.
  • Liaise with clients to ensure functions are running smoothly and according to plan and individual budgets
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by understanding customer needs, as well as resolving customer complaints
  • Ensure that all operating equipment and supplies are properly cared for, stored, and secured
  • Provide guidance and leadership to staff; as well as manage their performance throughout their employment at the PNE
  • Perform other related duties as required
What else
  • Must have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a management role within the Food & Beverage Industry; previous experience in a reputable, high volume Venue setting is considered an asset
  • Must have successful completion of Grade 12; post-secondary education in a related field is considered an asset
  • Must have knowledge of Food & Beverage operations, and all applicable quality, hygiene, and liquor licensing legislation, regulations, and standards
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills to effectively motivate team members and address performance concerns with staff
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships with peers, subordinates, tenants, clients, and other external contacts
  • Must have a proven track record of implementing and maintaining superior service standards, including excellent attention to detail and strong organizational and time management skills
  • Must have sufficient financial and tech-savvy skills to perform billing and reconciliation duties
  • Strong administrative capabilities, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, and electronic and hard copy file management
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and effectively manage various situations involving clients
  • Must possess outstanding written, oral communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English for the purpose of written and oral instructions is required
  • Must be able to work on an event-based work schedule, which will require extended hours and workweeks throughout the year (weekends and late nights); specifically, during the Playland, Fair and Fright Nights Season (May to October)
