Job Description

Village Vancouver is seeking an energetic and organized individual with a passion forcommunity development to assist with our seed library programs, as well as our community garden, DIY planter box, and other food and gardening programs, and the longer-term community and environmental goals of this dynamic non-profit society. Please visit our website at www.villagevancouver.ca to learn more about us.In compliance with Canada Summer Jobs guidelines, applicants must:- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or have official refugee protection status, and be legally entitled to work in Canada- be between the ages of 15 and 30Qualifications:- Interest in community development- Ability to work well with management, board, staff, volunteers andothers- Ability to take direction well and to show initiative- Experience working, studying, or collaborating with people from diverse cultures andeconomic backgrounds- Seed saving and/or gardening experience an asset- Familiarity with the Kitsilano neighbourhood and the Westside an asset- Ability to occasionally lift moderately heavy to heavy itemsProjects and tasks:Primary task:Producing and filling seed packets for our seed librariesTasks may also include:

  • Filling seed orders, processing seed donations, and helping to maintain and restock our seed libraries
  • Developing educational and promotional material for seed saving efforts
  • Helping organize in-person and socially-distant / virtual seed saving and other workshops and seed saver club meetings and participating in seed saver meetings
  • Filling DIY planter kit orders
  • Assisting with plant and bee house giveaways
  • Helping with Village Vancouver socially-distant / virtual workshops and activities
  • Other seed, gardening, and general tasks as needed
Rate of pay: $16.60 per hour + 4% in lieu of vacationJob duration and hours: Start date June 12. End date September 4 2022 (372 hours total) for 31 hours/week for 12 weeks. Mutually agreeable schedule to bedetermined.Location: A combination of Field House McBride Park (Kitsilano, Vancouver), some remote work, with potential restocking of VV community seed libraries gardens, gardening at VV gardens, and other related tasks.Deadline for Applications: June 7th or until the position is filled.
