Reporting to the Director of Development Operations, the Development Assistant will provide administrative and donor-services support to the entire Development and Communications team. The Development and Communications team raises funds needed for conservation projects and priorities across BC and helps share NCC’s work and achievements with a range of audiences through a variety of storytelling tools.The position will contribute to our team’s mission to build deep, trust-based relationships with donors who share a vision of a whole, healed natural world.Position tasksThe Development Assistant will be accountable for the following tasks:Development and Communications Team Support (90%)

  • Process donations received via various methods and complete required paperwork.
  • Support donor stewardship by coordinating the regional thank-you call list, sending thank-you letters, distributing tax receipts and fielding donor inquiries.
  • Assist in event planning, preparation, setup, logistics, etc. for both virtual and in-person events.
  • Organize and lead Development & Communications team meetings and prepare and distribute meeting agendas.
  • Enter donor activities and correspondence into the Raiser’s Edge database for frontline fundraisers and other BC region staff.
  • Generate, review and share reports from the Raiser’s Edge database as requested by the Development & Communications team, including regularized monthly donor reports.
  • Manage administrative duties for the Vancouver office such as: mail, photocopier, phones, office space, and donor recognition and office inventory.
  • Help coordinate fundraising/communications requests and workflow between the BC Region and NCC’s National office.
  • Receive and respond to general fundraising or communications inquiries where appropriate or facilitate communication with appropriate BC Region staff.
  • Assist the BC Region with tracking and submitting performance metrics to the National office.
  • Support hiring processes for the Development and Communications team including assisting with job postings and setting up interviews.
  • Organize onboarding and training for new Development & Communications team members.
  • Assist the Communications Manager and communications staff with administrative tasks related to communications, such as, website updates and uploading and maintaining graphic assets.
  • Assist the team with preparation for quarterly Regional Advisory Board meetings.
BC Region Team Support (10%)
  • Where requested or needed, support the wider BC Region team in key administrative tasks such as bookings, organization, monitoring the BC office email inbox, coordinating with HR, etc.
Helpful qualifications
  • 1-2 years experience in administrative positions.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, detail oriented and accurate.
  • Comfort talking directly to donors on the phone in a client-services capacity, along with sound judgement and tact when handling confidential personal information.
  • Commitment to frequent and open communication with team members as a central strategy for navigating competing or unclear priorities and deadlines.
  • Proactive in providing support to team members and communicating workload concerns.
  • Good self-awareness and commitment to professional growth.
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office products as well as the ability to learn new software like Raiser’s Edge.
  • Interest and openness to equity, diversity and inclusion in both internal and external-facing work duties.
  • Organization skills or other logistical skills to support the team and projects.
  • An appreciation for or willingness to learn about nature and conservation.
Benefits Overview:The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) provides a comprehensive health benefits package and three weeks paid vacation after a probationary period, plus two additional paid vacation “Nature Days” per year. NCC is closed and employees are provided with additional paid holidays from December 26 to January 31, inclusive. NCC employees receive provincial and federal holidays and any non-statutory holidays observed by NCC. Employees who observe religious holidays (ex. Eid al-Adha, Diwali, Rosh Hashanah, etc.) can take a leave as an alternative to a non-statutory day when NCC’s offices are closed (ex. Easter Monday, Remembrance Day, etc.). Full-time employees are eligible for up to two weeks (ex. 10 days) of paid personal or family leave days per calendar year following one week of employment.
