Reporting to the Manager, Baggage Operations, the successful candidate will ensure the safe, efficient, and proper delivery of project, maintenance and improvement work in baggage operations and the baggage handling system. This key decision-making, action-oriented and results-driven role responds to operational issues and coordinates resolution activities to maintain a safe, efficient and functioning system and operation.Key responsibilities include:

• Coordinating baggage operations activities including planning, ensuring activities are carried out in accordance to established policies, procedures and standards, and maintaining a strong awareness of all baggage operations construction, maintenance and operational activities
• Resolving operational issues such as baggage activity conflicts, while assessing the safety of the baghall, system activities and temporary driving routes during construction and maintenance
• Working with project managers, stakeholders and crews to ensure the system and facilities are ready to be turned over

Key qualifications include:

• Three years’ recent, related experience working in an operational environment such as an airport, logistics or construction, supplemented by at least one year of post-secondary education; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Knowledge of baggage handling systems, understanding of baggage operations and programs is preferred, but not required
• Experience in reading construction drawings and layouts
• Experience in using MS Office
• Strong focus on safety mindedness
• Excellent decision making, organization and leadership skills
• Proven communication skills – including oral, written and interpersonal – with an ability to resolve conflicts and handle situations with diplomacy
• Valid BC driver’s license; Occupational First Aid Level 1 certification is preferred

This means all Vancouver Airport Authority workers earn at least a living wage. Living Wage for Families B.C. has determined the hourly rate of pay at which a household can meet its basic expenses.
