B uilding and Plumbing Inspector I, II or IIIThe City of Port Alberni is a community of over 18,000 people. Located centrally on VancouverIsland, we are a well-serviced and growing municipality that offers residents affordable westcoast livin g, as well as proximity to oceans, lakes, rivers and mountains.The City of Port Alberni is currently accepting applications from qualified candidates who are interesting injoin ing a progressive and dynamic organization in the full-time position of Building and PlumbingInspector I, II or III.Reporting to the Director of Development Services, this position provides technical expertise and advicerelating to all building permit and inspection activities as well as related bylaws, codes and regulations. TheBuilding and Plumbing Inspector position undertakes the inspection of all types of building construction,repair and alteration, the processing of permit applications and the inspection of plumbing, sewer andfoundation drainage installations for compliance to applicable regulations, bylaws and requirements. Inaddition, this position is responsible for providing technical information, advice and direction, and forresponding to related enquiries.Qualifications & Experience: Completion of grade 12 as well as completion of a diploma program in building technology, orpossession of a trade’s qualification, as well as the completion of related courses. A minimum of five years of related work experience in the construction industry, or inspectional andregulatory experience. Possession of a current Level 1, 2 or 3 Building Official qualification from the Building Official’sAssociation of British Columbia (BOABC). Eligibility for Level 1 Plumbing qualification from the BOABC. Possession of a WETT (Wood Energy Transfer Technology) Certification for Inspection is an asset. Demonstrated proficiency keyboarding as well as using the MSOffice Suite and GIS software. Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with various stakeholders as required. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.The successful candidate will be required to complete a pre-employment fitness evaluation. The current rateof pay for this position is $38.55 - $45.65 per hour (depending on qualifications).
