In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.Posting End DateOctober 5, 2022Note: Applications will be accepted until 11:59 PM on the day prior to the Posting End Date above.Job End DateOct 15, 2025This position is located within a health-care facility, therefore, the successful candidate will be required to provide verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by a provincial health mandate.Job SummaryThis is a Casual Research MRI Technologist position within a research MRI facility operated by the University of British Columbia: the UBC MRI Research Centre. Position works in a team based environment and is responsible for performing research MRI examinations and associated tasks in the clinical MRI research facilities of the UBC MRI Research Centre. Practices in accordance with standards of professional practice and the vision and values of the UBC MRI Research Centre. Performs MRI examinations in accordance with departmental policy and procedures. Actively participates in maintaining a culture of safety in the research MRI environment. Duties also include booking MRI appointments and responding to Centre user queries, receiving and completing requisitions, entering relevant data into computer information systems, operating computerized imaging equipment including processing and archiving of acquired data, monitoring patients during procedures, monitoring equipment performance, participating in educational activities and project work as required by the Supervisor. Collaborates and communicates effectively with Centre researchers and their agents concerning the daily operations of the UBC MRI Research Centre. May be responsible for daily operations of the Centre if designated by the Supervisor. The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements.Organizational StatusDirectly reports to the Research MRI Supervisor of the MRI Research Centre.Work Performed1. Performs research MRI examinations and associated tasks as required by study protocol while adhering to standards of practice and providing excellent patient care. Ensures services are performed in an effective, safe and cost-efficient manner. Performs technical work as required by performing duties such as positioning research subjects, explaining procedures, operating imaging equipment in accordance with the approved research protocol and professional standards and procedures. Operates/assists with the operation of ancillary research equipment as needed beyond routine scope of clinical MRI practice per the needs of the study being hosted. Monitors patients during procedures and responds to emergent situations in accordance with facility policies and procedures. May be required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the event of an emergency.2. Communicates effectively using both verbal and written means with patients, co-workers, research personnel, collaborators. Demonstrates the ability to work independently and in a team with individuals with differing backgrounds, training, and knowledge levels. Ability to deal with and guide others in the resolution of conflict issues.3. Assists with trouble-shooting of equipment, facilitates workplace solutions with other personnel, trouble-shoots other work related issues. Works as a team with Centre researchers to solve problems as they arise while acting within professional scope, provides assistance as needed to research personnel to ensure an efficient, professional environment is maintained.4. Books MRI appointments, responds to user queries regarding safety screening, data inquiries.5. Participates in the implementation of new studies, assists Centre scientists in MRI technical development activities, collaborates with the Supervisor and others to develop or update department Standard Operating Practices. Participates in document and process auditing, organizational efforts and other project work as required by the Research MRI Supervisor.6. Adheres to the UBC MRI Safety policy and actively participates in creating a culture of safety. Provides direction to Non-Technologist Level 2, Level 1 and Non-MRI Personnel with regards to MRI safety, ensures the safe use of ancillary research equipment, takes action/documents/reports incidents to the Research MRI Supervisor and the Supervising Principal Investigator. Performs safety screening per Research MRI operating practice, reviews medical documents, researches device conditions, communicates with research and Radiologist personnel to determine if subjects can safely participate in research.7. Uses Good Documentation Practice in completing Centre and study required specific documentation. Identifies errors or missing documentation and works to resolve any issues with guidance from the Supervisor if needed.8. Works with a variety of computer systems, programs and web-based applications, participating in training as required. Disseminates and stores of research data in the study required file formats. Includes using PACS, the UBC virtual server data archive and any required multicentre core lab data upload system. Ensures the confidentiality of research subject data is maintained and access to this data is limited to the study Principal Investigators and their agents.9. Participates in educational activities including peer training fellow staff on research protocols, public educational tours, department workshops and working with physics, medical and MRI students.10. Performs other related duties as required.Consequence of Error/JudgementThe incumbent keeps the Supervisor informed through ongoing communication. Effective practice by the MRI Technologists is important to maintain the Centres operations and effectiveness. Poor professional practice and a failure to get the work done in a timely and effective manner would lead to damage of the credibility of the Centre ultimately leading to a loss of revenue for the Imaging Centre. Incorrect interpretation of policies, procedures and manuals could cause personnel, financial and operational difficulties.Supervision ReceivedWorks under the supervision of the Research MRI Supervisor.Supervision GivenProvides direction to Level 2, 1 and non-MRI Personnel in matters of safety and equipment operation within practice scope. Supporting training of highly qualified personnel (HQP).Minimum QualificationsCertification with CAMRT (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).An undergraduate degree or an equivalent professional designation is required with a minimum of five years of related experience, including experience in a field of specialization or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Health Canada Good Clinical Practices and TCPS Core 2 Certification.Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification - Basic Life Support (BCLS) level.Preferred QualificationsDemonstrated knowledge of Medical Imaging theory and practice within a research modelDemonstrated knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for Diagnostic Imaging practitioners established by the CAMRT.Demonstrated knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with radiology equipment.Demonstrated knowledge of Hospital and Radiology Information Systems.Demonstrated knowledge of PACS i.e. digital imaging, image archiving and retrieval.Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to work with a clinical and research computerized information system.Demonstrated knowledge of research processes and methodology.Demonstrated ability to develop procedure protocols and manuals.Demonstrated ability to promote a culture of enquiry and evidence based practice.Demonstrated ability to help develop project plans and implement new projects.Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with coworkers, researchers and their collaborators, other health care staff and staff of external agencies.Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.Quick Apply
