The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.Position title: Chief Electoral OfficerReports to: AMS CouncilSupervises: Elections Committee members and Poll ClerksEmployee status: Term, AppointedLength of term: May 2022 - April 2023Hours per week: May 1 - Aug 31, 2 hours/week; Sept 1 - Dec 31, 15 hours/week; Jan 1 - Apr 25, 25 hours/ weekCompensation: Tier 5 - $19.00 per hour.Position PurposeThe AMS Chief Electoral Officer chairs the Elections Committee and is responsible for ensuring that Executive elections, Society referenda, elections for student representatives on the Vancouver Senate and Board of Governors and constituency elections are run smoothly, fairly, and in accordance with the AMS Code and Bylaws. This is a very complex position involving team management, liaising with university and AMS staff, accounting, marketing, and records management.This position requires a major time commitment from September to April, but the busiest period are late September/early October (during Constituency fall elections period) and February- April (AMS General Election, Constituency Spring elections, and the Indigenous Councilor election).Duties and Responsibilities
