Job Description

VanWest College is seeking to hire a Co-op Coordinator.The Co-op Coordinator is responsible for coordinating student’s co-op related requirements by providing overall administrative support in accordance to VanWest College policies and protocols as well as handle career planning, job search, and employment advising for students to gain the best possible co-op experience. The role requires the candidate to have excellent organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills and enjoy taking initiative to assist students, have plenty of confidence and excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills.Documentation and administration:

  • Handle college student’s co-op-related mandatory and time sensitive documents in accordance to VanWest College policies and protocols.
  • Track and organize student files, both physical and digital records.
  • Administer co-op student’s bi-weekly reporting status and performance.
  • Monitor student’s reporting status and provide assistance to help improve student’s bi-weekly reporting performance.
  • Schedule recurring site visits for co-op students working off campus.
  • Seek referrals and future employment resources from the employer.
Consulting and advising:
  • Provide direction and overall guidance to students towards developing realistic goals and co-op work experience plan based on their program.
  • Offer assistance to prepare, create and improve student’s professional resume.
  • Offer guidance for interview performance individually or in a group.
  • Be available to meet or consult with students by appointment as necessary.
  • Prepare for new term intake for co-op students, which include co-op orientation preparation, creating co-op student profiles, updating student personal information.
  • Provide relevant and accurate information regarding the co-op process and requirements.
Assist in job market prospecting:
  • Contribute to engaging co-op employers for VanWest College via networking, prospecting, seeking referrals, and attending job fairs.
  • Assist in scanning job sites and job-related directories, spot potential immediate and future employers for co-op, connect & introduce VanWest College, and encourage employment leads to be a co-op partner.
Reporting & Supervision:
  • Direct supervision, training and reporting will be done through Co-op Coordinator Lead.
Qualifications:
  • Educational background in relevant area: business, human resources, marketing, communication, social work.
  • Background and relevant experience in administrative roles, recruitment and customer/client service.
  • Previous experience in student advising, career counselling and recruitment would be an asset.
