Job Description

Job Title: Co-op Program AdvisorLocation: Vancouver, BCTerm: Term ending April 2023DescriptionWe are currently looking for a Co-op Program Advisor to provide counselling, information, resources, and workshops to students in the Co-op Programs and Volunteer Experience Program at Greystone College Vancouver. The person filling this role will ensure high levels of program integrity and student success by preparing students for their Co-op work experience, and provide support for them to succeed while congruently developing, nurturing, and maintaining relationships with employers. A key objective of this positions is to create an excellent experience for students who go through the Co-op and the Volunteer Experience Program.The Co-op Program Advisor role is entry level and is a part time position with 25 hours of work per week. This is a temporary position until April 2023, with the possibility of extension. The schedule for the position will be from Monday – Friday 11:00AM – 4:00PM. Schedule is subject to change for special events (eg. Career Fairs, Graduations).Job DutiesThe job duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Promote a positive, motivated, proactive, and enjoyable office atmosphere that encourages the growth of each Co-op student and fosters a healthy group dynamic
  • Primary role is to provide one-on-one assistance and guidance to all daytime and evening students before, during and after their Co-op term for the successful completion of the work experience portion of their program. This responsibility includes, but is not limited to, providing assistance with resume preparation, practice interviews, job search advice, facilitating various orientation sessions and workshops related to the Co-op/volunteer programs.
  • Delivery of various Co-op program presentations, which include the new student Co-op Orientation and Work Placement Skills workshops.
  • Monitoring students Co-op placement progress, evaluating their success and professional growth through various reporting procedures, one-on-one meetings, and communication with employers.
  • Ensure students have the correct documentation and visa requirements to start the programs.
  • Resolve issues such as student or employer grievances relating to work performance by a student or condition of work in accordance with program policies and practices.
  • Function as a primary contact for employers. The Advisor is responsible for recruiting employers by networking, researching, marketing and cold calling, managing student Co-op opportunities and conducting site visits as needed.
  • Support students to have a better understanding of the Canadian workplace culture and expectations.
  • Record all student interaction in database to maintain a record of progress.
  • Keep paperless database up to date with student information, permits, and reports.
  • Collaborate with team to ensure clear communication of programs’ policies to students and other stakeholders, within and outside of the company.
  • Provide support and guidance to students in relation to program requirements for successful completions.
  • Track, collect, and process student reports and employer feedback.
  • Connect with employers to confirm students’ position and hours.
  • Ensure that the Co-op programs’ policies are communicated to students and adhered to.
  • Create sessional reports or other statistical reports for the purpose of management review, performance evaluation, sessional review, inputs on strategic decision.
  • Organize career fairs, graduation, and other events.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
  • Post-secondary University bachelor’s degree or college diploma with 2+ years of experience in the education, sales, marketing, project management or hospitality industry.
  • Ability to work in a busy, high-demand work environment with changing priorities, tight deadlines, multi-tasking and adapting to new changes to regulations and systems is a requirement.
  • Energetic, compassionate, and emotionally intelligent.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Self -motivated, eager to take initiative, able to work independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • A high level of tact and professionalism and a strong work ethic are required.
  • Experience in career advising or student support is a strong asset.
  • Developed understanding of current labor market trends, workplace practices and culture, and job-hunting strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral and ability to facilitate group meetings and conduct workshops.
  • Innovative and able to think outside the box.
  • Strong organizational skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Strong computer skills.
