Job Description

Pclass # SS271Job SummaryThis position collaborates on the planning, creation, editing and maintenance of written and digital content within the Marketing and Communications department. The incumbent also provides best practice advice, guidance and input to members of the College community around tone and style of communication pieces.Job Duties/Responsibilities1. Content Creation

  • Writes, edits, and proofreads content for a broad range of Marketing and Communications initiatives and platforms including but not limited to website pages, news items, success stories, email marketing, print publications and news releases.
  • Produces the external and internal email marketing and communications collateral in collaboration with marketing team members, determining content and visuals.
  • In collaboration with Strategic Communications and/or Communications Leadership, researches and writes opinion pieces, messages, etc., on behalf of leadership.
  • Contributes to the development of messaging and content for media and government relations, including the development of key messages, press releases, and spokesperson prep material.
  • Optimizes content for search engine marketing and optimization.
2. Content Management
  • Contributes to the development, coordination and maintenance of the Marketing and Communications editorial calendar, in collaboration with marketing team members.
  • Publishes content to the external and internal websites in collaboration with marketing team members.
  • Responds to requests for content from college stakeholders in collaboration with marketing team members.
  • Works collaboratively with web and graphic design teams to conceptualize and implement original web design ideas with a focus on simplicity and user experience.
3. Monitoring and Reporting
  • Identifies and assists in pitching stories that may be of interest to the media.
  • Analyzes and reports on content performance and makes timely recommendations.
4. Marketing
  • Provides advice and input to marketing team members around tone and style of communication pieces.
  • Works collaboratively with Social Media Coordinator and provides ongoing direction and guidance.
  • Provides support and coverage for the Social Media Coordinator as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field.
  • Over 2 years’ experience in professional writing for the web and email, editing, proofreading, and publishing through an online content management system or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current public relations, communications and marketing principles, practices and techniques, including email marketing techniques.
  • Knowledge of print, broadcast and online media including web, mobile and social platforms.
  • Experience with writing for the web and search engine optimization.
  • Experience in advanced journalistic writing and editing skills.
  • High level of creativity and effective visual communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide accurate, high-quality and creative content targeting a variety of needs and audiences.
  • Proven experience with dynamic content management systems.
  • Proven experience with email marketing platforms (eg. Mail Chimp).
  • Basic understanding and experience with HTML and CSS.
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty and external contacts.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage several time-sensitive tasks/projects at any given time.
  • Advanced knowledge of social media management tools (eg. Hootsuite), web analytic tools (eg. Google Analytics), MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Attention to detail.
