Job Description

Job SummaryContinuing Studies Department at Emily Carr University of Art + Design is seeking experienced Game Designers, Game Producers and Digital Media artists and educators with related experience to teach CETP 124 Summer Institute for Teens: Game Design. This 4-week course (total of 96 hours):Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, July 4-29, 20229am – 4pmInstructor rate is currently set at $73/hour.We encourage game designers, game producers and digital media artists with experience in video game design and development to apply. Continuing Studies instructional positions involve:

  • Preparing course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments and activities suitable for online and/or on-campus learning
  • Preparing, populating and updating course content and resources in Moodle, Emily Carr’s Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Supporting diverse student learning experiences, providing proactive feedback and guidance, completing assessments, and inputting grades
  • Regularly communicating and collaborating with CS Administration and CS Technicians
Course DescriptionBring your storytelling to the next level through game art + design! In this fun studio, you will learn the fundamentals of game design and how to communicate your ideas in this interactive medium. You will apply linear and non-linear storytelling techniques to develop a story concept, and use visual design principles to develop the look and feel of your game. You will learn simple coding and programming skills to prototype game mechanics, develop creative problem-solving skills, become familiar with the design process as it applies to video games, and learn how to apply basic UX design methods towards achieving a fun and positive user experience for your game.Required QualificationsIndividuals should have a master’s degree and professional experience in Game Design, Game Development or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference is given to those with experience and demonstrated passion for teaching at a secondary and post-secondary level.We are seeking candidates offering the following skills and experience:
  • Expert knowledge of game design, game production, level design, game art + UI, and post-mortem analysis
  • Expert knowledge of Unity and C#
  • Significant knowledge of basic programming and game mechanics
  • Significant knowledge of Adobe CC
  • Considerable knowledge of animation and 3D Modelling
  • Considerable experience with concept development, diverse creative processes, and project development
  • Considerable knowledge of critique and feedback strategies
  • Experience working with youth aged 15-18 in an educational capacity
  • Experience using adaptive and inclusive student engagement methods
  • Experience developing lesson plans and preparing content for online and/or on-campus learning
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Post-secondary teaching experience is an asset
  • Experience with online education (including Moodle and Zoom) an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and G-Suite an asset
