Job Description

St. John Hospice is currently looking for a casual Cook who can provide at least 3 work availability per week.About You

  • You are available to work on weekdays and weekends
  • You can provide at least 3 work availabilities per week
  • Youve graduated from a recognized 12-month program in cooking or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • You have a Food Safe Certificate Level 1, and its current.
About St. John HospiceSt. John Hospice is a 14-bed hospice with a home-like setting and 24-hour nursing care. We offer supportive end-of-life care for people with life-limiting illnesses.St. John Hospice is located at UBC, and is operated by Providence Health Care staff. We have a team of experienced care providers including nurses, doctors, counsellors and a pastoral care provider, as well as a large group of volunteers to provide extra support.What you will doAll of us at Providence Health Care are committed to treating each other the same way: with compassion and respect. This an extraordinary chance for you to work in healthcare.You will report directly to the Food Services Manager, and your responsibilities will include:
  • Preparing assigned food items by following established menus, recipes, and quantity quotas
  • Following established cooking schedules and meeting established resident/staff meal periods
  • Performing duties in accordance with all sanitation and safety requirements (for example, HACCP and WHMIS).
  • Reporting injuries and safety hazards to the Manager (or designate) immediately.
