We offer a hybrid work environment with most team members working in-office three days per week.Key Responsibilities

  • Works closely with research staff to maintain an efficient and well-organized laboratory. Ensures work areas are well-maintained, clean and tidy. Fosters effective and collaborative working relationships with fellow employees and management.
  • Assists with day-to-day lab operational tasks such as running the autoclave and performing general lab duties as needed.
  • Responsible for coordinating gas, LN2 and hazardous waste management, re-ordering of supplies, monitoring supplies and scheduling deliveries and pick-up with vendors.
  • Performs routine maintenance and troubleshooting for basic lab equipment.
  • Coordinates annual calibration events and other maintenance and repair events as needed, acts as point of contact for vendors.
  • Maintains equipment inventory including all records that reflect calibration and maintenance history.
  • Receives and notifies personnel of inbound sample shipments, manages sample inventory and acts as liaison between Shipping/Receiving and end user.
  • Coordinates other lab services such as media supply center, lab coat laundry and dry ice deliveries.
  • Requests quotes and generates purchase requests for maintenance events and lab services.
  • Coordinates facility maintenance events as needed and acts as point of contact for vendors.
  • Maintains chemical inventory and SDS database.
  • Coordinates and assists with freezer defrosting and manages receiving and archive location inventory.
  • Process Optimization and Continuous Improvement, contribute to projects that optimize processes that increase lab productivity and safety
  • Assists the Operations team with other duties as required.
  • Be part of a highly effective and motivated team and have the willingness to grow within the organization.
  • Conducts all activities in accordance with lab standards, Occupational Health & Safety regulations and established policies and practices.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor in Natural or Health Sciences and up to two years of related experience in a laboratory environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a cross-functional team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a high paced, fast changing environment. Results-oriented. Ability to efficiently manage multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Strong customer service skills with a proactive, problem solving approach, demonstrates initiative.
  • Good problem solving and analytical thinking skills.
  • Possess laboratory experience and technical proficiency, comfortable working in a scientific or laboratory environment.
  • Experience with storage and handling of temperature sensitive materials.
  • Experience in WHIMS and Biosafety preferred.
  • Experience using an inventory database is preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Must have the physical strength to lift and move boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
