Job Description

The Database Administrator maintains and monitors the organization’s production databases. This is a demanding role that requires hands-on experience with database management, Linux, networking and security.Responsibilities:Manage all database servicesDevelop, implement and document best practices for DR, backup and recovery, database securityDatabase system software installations and upgradesDeploy database schema changes to various enterprise environmentsParticipate in on-call production support rotationCoordinate database system upgrades with IT staff, end users and vendorsPerformance monitoring and reportingPerformance tuningCapacity planningAutomate database administration functionsExecute diagnostics on operational (i.e. production) databases, analyze the results and articulate recommendationBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience with demonstrated progressive responsibilities5+ years of IT experience with a minimum of 3 years’ experience implementing and operating significant Oracle or PostgreSQL databases in Unix-based commercial environmentsSolid understanding of database design principlesAbility to proactively identify, troubleshoot and resolve live database systems issuesKnowledge of disaster recovery principles and practices, including planning, testing, backup/restoreGood SQL knowledge including PL/SQL or PL/pgSQL scriptingProficient in Unix shell scriptingExperience working in a DevOps focused environment employing related technologies like GitLab (GitHub) or similar source control with continuous integration using Ansible and Docker (or Kubernetes etc.) for orchestration preferredCurrent on technical advancements in the field and in related fieldsExcellent ability to learn new technologies quicklyMust work collaboratively with other departments and all levels within the organizationExcellent verbal and written communication skillsCreative/innovative thinkerStrong analytical, problem resolution and decision making skillsQuick Apply
