Job Description

The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.Position title: DishwasherDepartment: Food & BeverageReports to: Outlet ManagerEmployee status: Hourly, Part-timePosition OverviewThe Dishwasher is responsible for providing support services in the AMS venues and the central food kitchen. They wash all preparation dishware, utensils, and pots, return them to proper storage, ensure that all work spaces & small equipment in the kitchen are kept clean and sanitized, and ensure kitchen floors are clean and dry at all times. Dishwashers assist with the management of all waste streams including composting, recycling and waste removal from the kitchen. They stay focused and levelheaded even under pressure. The ideal candidate has an outgoing, friendly personality and enjoys interacting with people while being hands on.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing excellent dishwashing service to AMS outlets
  • Ensuring all dishware and utensils are cleaned and sanitized
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment
  • Assisting with occasional food preparations as needed
  • Working in a fast paced environment and remaining calm under pressure
  • Working with the AMS mission statement and values to operate a successful department
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 12kgs (26.5lbs)
  • Ability to do shift work (daytime, evenings, and holidays) and availability on Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to build relationships
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Language: Required to speak, read and write English
  • Previous experience in a food service environment an asset
  • Food Safe level 1 an asset
  • Serving it Right certification an asset
