Job Description

The New Mummy Company, a leader in postpartum support, proudly operates Canada wide, is once again looking for certified and certifying Postpartum Doulas to join our growing team. We are still experiencing a surge in demand for postpartum support, particularly last minute requests for overnight support in particular in Vancouver and the lower mainland. We have positions open through end of 2022, working with families in the comfort of their own home both days and nights. The Postpartum Doulas responsibilities include providing post birth emotional and physical support to the mother and assisting her in her recovery. Hands on baby care will also be required to allow the parents the opportunity to sleep and rest.To be successful, you should be trained as a Postpartum Doula and either have verifiable professional experience of supporting parents in the immediate period post birth within the last three years or actively going through the process of certifying as a postpartum doula (we can assist you with getting postpartum clients). You should have a natural ability to nurture and guide new parents. We are actively seeking candidates who are patient, forthcoming, and able to provide practical advice as well as kind words of support. In addition, it’s essential that you are reliable, committed and trustworthy.Postpartum Doula Responsibilities:

  • Providing the mother with post birth emotional, physical and educational support
  • Assist and support breastfeeding and/or pumping as well as cleaning and sterilizing feeding and pumping equipment.
  • Listening to the concerns and questions of the mother in a kind, non-judgmental way and offering the best possible advice.
  • Providing practical support and advice to the mother after childbirth, like organizing the nursery, providing encouragement to rest, assisting in baby care, baby laundry, running errands and meal preparation.
  • Keeping up to date on current best practices in post-natal care
  • Assisting in whatever way possible to make the transition to parenthood easier.
Postpartum Doula Requirements:
  • Experience in working with mothers and families post birth.
  • Provide knowledgeable feeding support
  • A calming and nurturing presence.
  • The ability to answer questions and provide guidance in a non-judgmental way.
  • A wealth of knowledge on post-natal care.
  • The ability to remain calm, multitask and provide emotional support.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Punctual and reliable, committed to supporting each family
What are the benefits of working with The New Mummy CompanyAs an independent contractor working with us you will have the opportunity choose your own work schedule and work the hours and shifts that suit you. We offer full and part time contracts, day and night, which enables you to earn a full time income should you choose or occasional part time income - you choose! Our positions also provide major job satisfaction through providing consistent care to one family (or two families based on their needs and your availability).Our minimum hours for day shifts are four hours and eight hours for overnights. Some overnight shifts can be up to 12 hours but this can be negotiated based on your availability. Contracts can be short term, for a couple of weeks or longer term for a few months. While some families book many months ahead in advance, many families are currently booking only when they need the service, hence the need for us to dramatically increase the size of our team across Vancouver and the lower mainland. As often we are unable to provide the service that a new family requires at the last minute, which we aim to avoid at all costs.There are many benefits to working with us, not just the volume of clients coming to us each day. Our Oakville, ON head office will take care of all of the paperwork, setting up interviews, invoicing clients and payments etc, so you can focus on the care you give the family. We also offer industry related regular training sessions every 6-8 weeks to add to your resume. We encourage ongoing education and will require you to undertake a minimum of 2 trainings or professional development courses per year to ensure you stay current and up to date.If you relocate it is not a problem, as you will still be able to work for us at one of our many locations as we operate currently in Ontario, Alberta and BC.
