Job Description

Company ProfileMinto Metals, a producing underground copper mine has exciting opportunities to become part of our team and live by our Company values – Be Safe, Be Honest, Be Responsible, Be Respectful and Be Great!PositionWe are seeking an Environmental Officer for a full-time/regular position. This is a fly-in, fly-out position at the Minto mine site with travel to Whitehorse, YT and charter flight to site every Thursday travel day. Rotation is 2 week on/2 week off. Travel to/from Whitehorse is paid for by the Company.The Ideal CandidateYou will have;

  • 2-3 years’ experience in Environmental field at a producing mine site;
  • Post-Secondary diploma or degree in Environmental Science;
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills;
  • Advanced MS Office suite of software, particularly Excel;
  • Experience working in a remote mining or industrial environment;
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada;
  • Ability to develop and foster strong working relationships;
  • Ability to work with a diverse cross-cultural workforce;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Must have a valid drivers license;
  • Physically fit to perform the duties of the position.
Responsibilities
  • Attend Safety Meetings when onsite and comply with all Health, Safety, and Environmental Regulations, Corporate Policies and Procedures;
  • Plan, coordinate and assist with routine environmental monitoring activities including:
    • Surface water, groundwater and soil sampling;
    • Biological monitoring (fisheries, vegetation, etc.);
    • Operate and maintain monitoring equipment, including pick-up trucks, ATV, instruments, tablets and pumps;
    • Monitor wildlife activity around the site and participate in wildlife deterring, if necessary;
    • Small scale reclamation activities, such as vegetation trials, seeding or seed collection;
    • Perform QA/QC on environmental monitoring data via Fulcrum and Excel to ensure quality of the monitoring and identify outliers;
  • Track site environmental compliance with licenses and permits conditions;
  • Assist with solid waste management and recycling efforts on site;
  • Assist in liaising with environmental consultants and various regulatory stakeholders;
  • Carry out inspections of mine site work areas and ensuring environmental safeguards are in place;
  • Prepare reports required under licences and permits;
  • Respond to and direct cleanup of environmental spills;
  • Communicate with analytical labs regarding sampling and analysis;
  • Conduct environmental awareness information and training sessions for site personnel and contractors, including wildlife protection, spill prevention and response etc.;
  • Coordinate with Environment Team and other departments in the implementation of routine and project-related tasks;
  • Conduct quality control and quality assurance for data collected under monitoring programs;
  • Practice and actively promote company environmental, health, safety and operational policies and procedures;
  • Ensure that safety issues are reported and promptly remedied;
  • Demonstrate safety leadership within a team environment and promote environmental awareness in all work or task related duties;
  • Maintain a high standard of performance in your duties;
  • Be an effective communicator in English (verbal and written) at all levels, including keeping your other team members fully always informed who may be on another shift;
  • Participate in site specific training;
  • Comply with company standards, as well as Yukon Territory and Canadian federal standards;
  • Other duties may be assigned from time to time as required by the Company.
