Job Description

Alert First-Aid is a local first aid & CPR training agency known for our upbeat, passionate first aid instructors and fun, interactive courses. Were looking for a first aid geek to join our team and teach courses! Youll be teaching basic level Red Cross first aid courses both at our training facility and off-site to private groups in the community.First Aid Instructors are responsible for preparing course paperwork, teaching Canadian Red Cross First Aid & CPR courses, submitting course paperwork to the head office and cleaning/maintaining first aid equipment, supplies and classroom.Qualifications

  • Canadian Red Cross First Aid & CPR Instructor or Occupational First Aid Level 1 Instructor certificate an asset
  • Experience teaching first aid related classes (WSI, LSI, etc.) and/or adult teaching experience preferred
  • Experience in first aid (first aid attendant, OFA 2-3, EMR, lifeguard, etc.) an asset
  • Vehicle large enough to fit a class-worth of first aid trainign equipment & a drivers license
  • Available to teach any day of the week (including weekends and evenings) up to a maximum of 40 hours per week
  • Able to commit to working full-time for at least a year
  • Leadership and public speaking skills
Consideration also given to those without an instructor certificate and experience with first aid, though you must be both passionate/enthusiastic about first aid and comfortable with public speaking. You will spend a week taking the Canadian Red Cross First Aid & CPR Instructor course, as well as 3-4 additional weeks co-teaching and working 1:1 with senior instructors and instructor trainers to develop your instructional skills (all paid). The cost of this training is valued at approximately $6,000, so we do ask our instructors to commit to working full-time for at least a year after their training is complete.We are different from other first aid training agencies in that we believe in hiring full-time, permanent staff (not contract instructors) so that we can guarantee hours and commit to this in depth training process.Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian Red Cross skill program standards
  • Prepare course paperwork ahead of the course
  • Teach a fun and interactive first aid and/or CPR course to either public course participants or a private group
  • Perform administrative responsibilities post-course (completing progress logs, etc.) in a timely manner
  • Travel to and from off-site courses
  • Clean and sanitize first aid equipment after the course and reset the classroom (tidying, vacuuming, taking out the garbage, etc.)
Compensation/BenefitsIn addition to paid training, this position includes extended health benefits, and commission on in-class first aid kit sales on top of the regular salary.This is an entry-level First Aid Instructor position teaching basic level courses - after 6-12 months experience teaching and more training, there is room to grow at Alert First Aid and teach more advanced courses for a higher salary (BLS, Wilderness, OFA 1, etc.)If this sounds like a great fit for you, please send us your resume!
