Job Description

CIBC is currently looking for First Nations/Metis/Inuit Candidates for a Relationship Manager of Indigenous Trusts in Vancouver!What You’ll Be DoingThe Trust Officer provides direct management and administration oversight for an assigned portfolio of Indigenous Trusts of varying complexity. The Trust Officer works with an Executive Trust Officer to provide administrative guidance for those accounts, along with a Trust Administrator who provides assistance with the administration The Trust Officer also partners with a specialized team of professionals within Commercial Banking and Wealth Management dedicated to working with Indigenous clients.How You’ll Succeed

  • Primary accountability for the timely, accurate, and professional oversight of the set up and administration of complex Indigenous trusts. Maintains up-to-date knowledge and understanding of trust legislation and issues impacting the Indigenous market. Identifies and mitigates account risks while adhering to all CIBC Trust Policies & Procedures, including cash management, fee collection, account opening, etc. Leads account administration, and acts as the primary client contact ( and Trust operations/administration contact for the Indigenous Markets team) where applicable.
  • Develop and maintain a professional relationship with CIBC Trust Corporation (CIBC Trust), Commercial Banking, and Wealth Management. Partners effectively with internal experts from the Investment Management Department, Tax Department, and other areas within CIBC to provide oversight and guidance on client investment, tax and other issues impacting the trusts. Engages external professionals as required. Supervises account investments to ensure consistency with account objectives, constating documents and legislation.
  • Oversee and supervise the workflow of Trust Administrators by providing ongoing technical assistance through training; acting as a resource to a team to guide and provide effective supervision; participate in the development of controls to ensure the integrity of the company; analyze workflow to maximize efficiency and profitability while maintaining service quality. In addition, oversees the Trust Administrator and/or prepares the quarterly and annual reporting to the leadership and community members
  • Assist Executive Trust Officer in providing professional development to Trust Administrators through motivation, coaching, mentoring and training to ensure quality of service and adherence to professional standard. Also providing regular informal feedback to Trust Administrators; and monitor and escalate any disciplinary issues.
  • Adhere to all CIBC Trust Policies & Procedures including: cash management, AML, account opening, CLIPs, QI, etc.; process requirements, and established estates & trusts guidelines, Accountable to mitigate risks identified and make recommendations and decisions in accordance with sound regulatory principles and in compliance with CIBC Trust Policy & Procedures and Pricing Guidelines. program, and employee share purchase planREQUIREMENTS
  • Must self identify as First Nations/Metis/Inuit
  • 5+ years of Estate & Trust Industry experience
  • Experience and knowledge in the administration of Indigenous Trusts is an asset
  • Completion of the NATOA training program
  • Experience administering various estate, trust and power of attorney accounts and personal holding corporations
  • Developed people management skills. Ability to motivate and develop others, and to inspire results in others.
  • Detailed knowledge of accounting, financial planning, budgeting and investing sufficient to administer a range of complex Trust Accounts is an asset.
  • Well-developed communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with clients, professionals and Indigenous groups/organizations.
  • Well developed knowledge of PC Software and mainframe applications sufficient to enter and access customer information
  • Exceptional writing skills sufficient to prepare correspondence containing detailed descriptions, explanations and specialized Estates & Trusts terminology.
  • Knowledge of provincial trust and estates law is an asset as is knowledge of the Income Tax Act.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn from Indigenous communities on their journey to using their Trust as a vehicle for sustainable prosperity for seven generations
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Securities Course and the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI) Estate and Trust Administration course (or the former CSI Estate and Trust Administration Level 1 & Level 2 courses) is an asset
  • MTI/STI/TEP designations are assets
