The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.Position title: AMS Firstweek CoordinatorDepartment: AMS EventsReports to: Events ManagerEmployee status: Term, AppointedLength of term: June 15 – October 15Hours per week: 30 – 40 hours/weekCompensation: Tier 2Position PurposeThis position offers a unique opportunity to use your knowledge of student life to work with the AMS Events Department in organizing and implementing a week-long festival in September dedicated to welcoming new and returning students to campus life.Duties and ResponsibilitiesRecruit, train and supervise Firstweek staff hired to work during the first week of SeptemberPrepare a detailed budget in consultation with Budget CommitteeManage the finances of the service in consultation with Budget CommitteeCreate and schedule Firstweek programs and events in consultation with the AMS Events Department, Executive, Food and Beverage Department and Bookings DepartmentManage or delegate management for all events during FirstweekSecure all necessary venues, equipment, power, artists, and special staff for Firstweek, working with the AMS Events DepartmentCommunicate and secure sponsors in collaboration with Events ManagerPromote and market the Firstweek eventsLiaise with campus and AMS organizations (Imagine UBC, Housing and Conferences, Student Involvement and others) to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated student orientation and welcome experienceWorks with the AMS mission statement and values to operate a successful departmentOther duties as requiredQualifications and ExperienceMust be a currently registered student at UBC Vancouver or one of its affiliated collegesExcellent communication skillsKnowledgeable and familiar with student life at UBCAbility to manage multiple projectsStrong leadership skills and the ability to manage a large staffAbility to work collaboratively and communicate effectively on shared projectsSocial media experienceCreative promotional and marketing ideasExperience in event management and programming experience an assetGraphic design experience is an assetTO APPLY:Please submit your resume and cover letter by clicking the 'Apply Now" button below.Application Deadline: Applications will be accepted until June 16th, 2021.Thank you for your interest at the AMS.
