Job Description

Position Status: Full-Time Temporary (These positions to run from approximately April 1, 2022 – August 31, 2022)Department: Water ServicesEmployee Group: GVRDEULocation: Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve, North VancouverNATURE OF WORK:Metro Vancouver’s Water Services department is seeking a dynamic individual with a combination of skills in both public outreach and forest maintenance work. Supervised by the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve (LSCR) Operations Foreman and/or the Watershed Tour Coordinator, time will be shared between the two roles. The position will be based out of the LSCR with travel to both the Capilano and Coquitlam watersheds for tour delivery.THE ROLES: (The duties described are intended to be representative of the position and are not to be considered as all-inclusive)1. Watershed Tours

  • Delivers in-person and/or virtual watershed tours for diverse public audiences including both adult and family groups
  • Updates tour script information as needed, responding to updated seasonal messaging about sustainable water use during summer months, reservoir levels and precipitation records
  • Develops outreach signage such as kiosk and event posters as well as other interpretation support materials
  • Participates in delivery of public outreach materials, such as hosting informational booths.
  • Assists with special events in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve
2. LSCR Forest Worker
  • Performs a variety of routine maintenance duties, such as: grass cutting and trimming; planting; maintenance of trails, buildings, picnic and facility sites; repair of tools; pressure washing and staining; bridge and boardwalk repairs; garbage collection and litter pick up; and cleaning washroom facilities
  • Patrols LSCR areas and trails on foot and/or by vehicle
  • Employs use of small machines (mower, brusher, power washer, drill, various carpentry tools etc.)
  • Provides information and assistance to LSCR users, enforces rules, and assists with special events
  • Assists other Watershed & Environment sectors with various tasks
.TO BE SUCCESSFUL, YOU HAVE:Grade 12 (or equivalent) plus some post-secondary courses in natural resources, education, or biological sciences or an equivalent combination of training and related experience in a forest, parks operations and/or interpretation.Able to deal with public in a courteous and effective manner utilizing tact, diplomacy and good judgment; excellent verbal and written communication skills.Experience working outdoors.Works effectively as part of a team and independently.Valid, Unrestricted Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License.ASSETS WOULD INCLUDE:Off road driving experience (4x4) and operation of a variety of vehicle typesOccupational First Aid Level 1 with Transportation EndorsementExperience delivering interpretive programsKnowledge of local ecosystemsKnowledge of Watershed and LSCR RegulationsFamiliarity with a range of computer skills and applicationsHOURS OF WORK:40 hours per week which will include some weekend, evening and holiday work.Quick Apply
