Overview:WildBrain Studios is looking for an experienced FX Supervisor to join our exciting new animated Sonic the Hedgehog series, Sonic Prime, set to premiere worldwide in 2022.This 24-episode animated adventure for kids, families, and long-time fans draws upon the keystones of the brand and features the “Blue Blur” of video game fame in a high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands. Sonic’s adventure is about more than a race to save the universe, it’s a journey of self-discovery and redemption.This feature quality episodic series will deliver the visually captivating, binge-worthy story that Sonic fans new and old are sure to love. We are on the hunt to find passionate and talented folks to join this team and help us really bring the blue blur to life!As a FX Supervisor, you will be the creative and technical eye of the show, reviewing and supporting lighting, FX and compositing stages of the production. You will work closely with the Director and Art Director to achieve the look of the show. The ideal candidate is an experienced artist with a creative eye and the ability to guide and support their team.We are currently working virtually because of the Covid-19 pandemic. During this time our hiring teams are ready to support interviews via video conferencing, and we are enabling artists to work from home until the studio can reopen. We’d love to hear from you! #stayhomestaysafe!Responsibilities:Work closely with Director and Art-Director to create a feature quality FX look for the showWork closely with CG Supervisor and Show TD to identify and solve technical issues that ariseMentor, train, and guide the FX team, in new software and through shot productionReview and critique the FX team via dailies or weekliesProvide bid times for all FX tasks series wideCollaborate with pipeline to improve FX process and workflowEnsure complete and seamless integration of all FX assets within the pipelineTake responsibility for all task assignments to FX teamReview all submitted FX for approval in dailiesCreate and maintain FX wikiIdentify, communicate and implement the FX needs of the productionLead the team to deliver the show needs on time and to the expected quality standardsCommunicate and work closely with the Series Director, Art Director, CG supervisor, and the pipeline team to ensure an efficient and creative productionOverseeing the daily activities, leading the department, and establishing best practice workflows and guidelines for the teamReview, debug and improve other team members’ assets, workflows and techniquesMeet production deadlines and maintain regular communication with the production teamImplement workflow, scripts and tools as neededAnticipating, communicating, and troubleshooting any creative or technical issuesOrganizing training for new employees as well as refresher sessions for existing team members in order to keep them up to date with new tools and technicsBeing able to determine and understand the needs, interests, strengths and weaknesses of the team and use this information to contribute to the growth and development of the modeling teamWorking closely with management to guide artists overall professional development by providing performance feedback, mentoring, resolving performance issues and maintaining positive morale within the teamAssist the Artist Management and Recruiting departments in the the crew selection processBe a positive and creative force in building a healthy work and team cultureCommunicate with other supervisor and team leads on concerns and production issues ahead of timeQualifications:2+ years Supervisory experience in FX on a Animated Feature film or Feature Quality Episodic productionProficiency in Houdini is a mustProficiency in Nuke is a mustExpert level understanding of modelling, texturing, shading, lighting, compositing and rendering workflowsAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a team, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressureAbility to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas in a professional and positive mannerAbility to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficientlyHighly motivated, pro-active, with a solid work ethic and positive attitudeBonus:Python scriptiong is a plusProficiency in Phoenix FD for Maya and Bifrost is a plusExperience with VRay is a plusExperience with Shotgun and RV would be helpfulBachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Computer Animation, or other relevant area of study and/or equivalent job experienceExperience in episodic production methodologies is a benefitWhy WildBrainAt WildBrain Studios our teams dig into a diverse range of projects – from preschool and comedy to action-adventure, and work with international partners such as Apple, Netflix, LEGO, DreamWorks, BBC, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and more.
