Apply today to join our team!Within the context of an integrated health service and a client and family-centred care delivery model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization such as the Downtown Eastside (DTES) Second Generation Strategy, the Health Unit Worker supports the community health programs/centres/clinics by maintaining inventories of various medical/surgical, biological supplies and harm reduction resources, setting up and dismantling clinic areas, cleaning and disinfecting equipment, assembling and preparing education packages for clients. Performs other related administrative support functions, as required. Establishes, maintains and enhances client interactions based on respect.ABOUT URGENT AND PRIMARY CARE CENTRESUrgent and Primary Care Centres (UPCC) will provide care for people with unexpected, non-life-threatening conditions who need medical attention within 12-24 hours but who don't require a visit to the emergency department – this includes sprains, cuts and wounds, an infection, mild asthma attack and less serious child illness and injury. The multidisciplinary health care team will be staffed by general practitioners, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and social workers.UPCCs are intended to be an additional service in the community, working in concert with all touch points for care to provide appropriate urgent services to patients, when and where they need it.QUALIFICATIONS:Education & ExperienceGrade 12. One (1) year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid B.C. driver's license and local area travel requiring the use of a vehicle may be required.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of healthcare equipment.Knowledge of sterilization techniques and procedures.Knowledge of health care facilities/clinics practices and procedures.Ability to operate related equipment and computer software programs.Ability to keyboard 5,000 strokes per hour.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with the public and team members.Ability to deal tactfully with coworkers and clientsAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
