Role & ResponsibilitiesReporting to the COO and supporting 20 locations across Canada, as the Human Resource Manager you have a strong retail operations background and will share your genuine commitment to the companys goals and core values, focusing on coaching all team members and leaders to work towards the common organizational objectives. The following is a summary of the key areas you will be responsible for:Recruitment:
  • Support the network and support centre on achieving overall recruitment goals
  • Work with leadership to forecast hiring needs
  • On-going management of recruitment budget & strategy
  • Frequent analysis on turnover metrics within the organization
  • Conduct, evaluate and support throughout the interview process
  • Manage the company ATS
  • Manage and support the organizations recruitment brand through attending hiring fairs and various networking opportunities
  • Develop, manage, and administer employee job descriptions
  • Support new store opening activities related to recruiting, hiring, onboarding and training
Payroll & Benefits:
  • Manage job offers and onboarding process
  • Responsible for managing the employee termination and transfer processes
  • HRIS systems and documentation management
  • New Management training related to HR System, processes and policies
  • Assist with payroll processing
  • Assist in resolving any payroll issues
  • Educate employees on group benefits & total rewards programs
  • Evaluate compensation and benefits packages on an annual basis to ensure they are competitive and attracting/retaining talent
Employee Health & Safety:
  • Manages company’s National Health & Safety Strategy while working withing the provincial & jurisdictional frameworks
  • Identify and mitigate any potential risk, regularly keep up to date with any regulatory changes and updates nationally
  • Manages relationships with provincial human rights / WSIB, WSBC, Service Canada, etc
  • Develop, enhance, and support the execution and implementation of health and safety policies across the network and any job sites
  • Provide health and safety training and/or provide the relevant resources and tools to assist in employee development
HR Policy & Organizational Culture:
  • Enhance the company’s culture through regular team outreach as a support partner
  • Regularly look for ways to enhance employee engagement and operational barriers that may be impacting it
  • Develop, manage, and implement HR SOP’s
  • Support in the administration and implementation of employee performance appraisals
  • Support in the administration of the coaching and performance management process
  • Support, develop and enhance the team’s overall training and development programs
  • Manages HR resources / confidential information
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and facilitation support to Managers and Senior Leaders performance management or termination needs, notably those that may be of high sensitivity or high risk.
  • Identify and act on opportunities for improvement in approach,practices, processes, programs, policies, SOP’s, HR materials, etc. to ensure HR Operations is managed in the most relevant, efficient, and effective manner.
  • Collect, analyze statistical data, metrics, trends and reports.
  • Ability to consolidate and present this information to senior leaders.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Experience in retail and/or a hospitality is strongly desired, particularly in the cannabis, specialty retail and/or liquor industry.
  • Focused experience in Human Resources with 5+ years of HR experience
  • Experienced in various functions of HR, with a strong focus on employee relations, performance management, and workplace investigations.
  • Have a strong understanding of relevant employment legislation and laws (in most Canadian Provinces – currently BC, AB, SK and ON).
  • Experience in mergers and acquisitions an asset.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources or Business Administration is required.
  • CPHR designation strongly preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office and HR Systems
Personal Characteristics and Requirements
  • Proactive in recognizing and identifying needs and opportunities for improvement.
  • Results-oriented professional with a high degree of initiative and autonomy.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, business travel is not frequent but may be necessary at times (up to 15%) in this role.
  • Must obtain a current police background check
  • Must have a valid provincial cannabis certification
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with some evening and weekend.
