Job Description

Intern, CommunicationsThrough the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.You are a curious, upbeat and results- driven communications student looking to grow your skills and experience in a fast-paced and diverse organization. A strong written and verbal communicator, you will assist the team with profiling Seaspans stories across all the organizations channels.Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.The successful applicant for this internship will provide day-to-day support to the Communications team to help create and share compelling communications materials with internal and external audiences, while assisting and coordinating specific activities, including:

  • Assist with capturing and managing of photos and video assets to help us share great stories
  • Write and edit engaging written and visual content for a variety of platforms
  • Support the planning and delivery of events
  • Help to gather and maintain the team’s information and digital assets
To be successful in this role you will require:
  • Enrolled in a 2nd, 3rd or 4th year degree program in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or Journalism.
In addition, you should have:
  • Strong creative and design skills, particularly with photography and videography. Experience editing videos and handling digital assets an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly writing and editing.
  • Experience with design and video editing software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel/Word/Outlook/PowerPoint), SharePoint and Teams.
  • A quick learner, highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and manage their time effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines with quick turnaround times.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships across the organization and with outside vendors.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in the marine, industrial, manufacturing or government sectors is an asset
