Job Description

Intern, Technology TrainingThrough the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 10 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.The Technology Training Intern will be responsible for providing support and training to Mariners on computer systems and assisting with resolution of issues encountered. This will involve collaboration with Seaspan’s IT Department, Radio Shop, and Project Teams. In this role you will provide day-to-day support to:

  • Train and coach seagoing crew in computer/technology-based tools
  • Build checklists and electronic forms
  • Input, merge, manage database of various preceding filing systems
To be successful in this role, you will require:
  • Enrolled in a 2nd, 3rd or 4th year degree program, with a curiosity about technology and administration.
In addition, you should have:
  • Superb written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to successfully train and coach fellow employees
  • Ability to assess, plan, and troubleshoot
  • Willing and able to work independently and as part of team
  • Excellent skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, Visio
  • Strong organizational and presentation skills
