Job Description

The ideal candidate will adapt and learn new things quickly, solve expected and unexpected challenges, and lead with values such as curiosity, inclusion, and empathy.Title: Investment AssociatePurpose of position: The Investment Associate will support an investment portfolio aligned with InBC’s impact investing mandate. The portfolio will be a mix of direct and fund investments.Key Interactions: Internally the Investment Associate will work with the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Investment Principals investment team members, Finance team members, Legal, and the Community Manager.Externally the Investment Associate will work with fund of funds, other investors, entrepreneurs from seed/early/late stage companies, and ecosystem partners (such as accelerators, incubators, service providers, etc.).Key accountabilities:

  • With support from the CIO and Investment Principals, execute the full lifecycle of the investment process, from deal sourcing, through to due diligence, investment review, and deal execution, and ensure that impact criteria are embedded throughout the process.
  • Carry out research deep dives, industry analysis and market mapping of investment themes aligned to InBC’s strategy to identify opportunities that drive impact and financial returns.
  • Develop and grow strong relationships with a network of investors and entrepreneurs to generate deal flow and source new investment opportunities.
  • Support due diligence in investment opportunities in funds and/or companies to develop investment memos and present investment recommendations.
  • Leverage your previous investment experience and collaborate with necessary stakeholders to execute approved investments.
  • Liaise with portfolio companies to measure and capture financial and impact KPIs that align with InBC’s triple bottom line mandate.
  • May work closely with management teams of portfolio companies in an advisory role, or participate on boards or advisory committees, in order to implement value-creation plans, monitor financial and operational performance, and help with growth initiatives.
  • Engage with communities and ecosystem partners to promote awareness of InBC’s mandate and generate potential leads for investment opportunities.
  • Support development of thought leadership on the investment program and represent InBC at events and other public functions.
Special Projects: As required by the CIO, this position could include other duties as assigned, based on needs of the organization.Reports to: Chief Investment Officer% Travel: This role will be based in BC. Consistent travel across BC may be required.Qualifications:
  • Experience (minimum 2 to 3 years) in private equity, venture capital, investment banking, consulting, or other deal-related financial services with fund investments and/or direct investments.
  • Experience in impact investing, particularly in developing and implementing impact measurement and management frameworks is considered an asset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics or any related field, or equivalent experience.
  • MBA, Master’s Degree, CFA, or CPA are considered a strong asset.
  • Strong knowledge of the BC economy, and its key industries.
  • Experience in technical, financial and management evaluation as part of investment due diligence.
Other key attributes required for success:
  • Passion for impact investing and motivated to create real impact for BC.
  • Ability and desire to move quickly and do what it takes to get the job done.
  • Proven ability to continuously learn and put in additional efforts where gaps exist.
  • Ability to build trust and collaborate with individuals from different communities & backgrounds.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills (with experience interacting with senior leaders in both large and small organizations).
