Nada has diverted more than one million single-use containers from landfills and has been recognized in the Globe & Mail, New York Times, and Wall Street Journal for our community-based food systems work and circular supply chain.About the RoleNada’s Operations Department, and specifically the Inventory & Purchasing Team, is responsible for the daily flow of our products in and out of the warehouse and store location as well as the sourcing of new products and purchasing of existing products.The Junior Buyer will play an essential role in this mandate by overseeing Nada’s purchasing and sourcing, ensuring that product is efficiently and accurately managed throughout its lifecycle at Nada. These responsibilities require a high level of communication ensuring that the entire team has the right information, equipment and support to accomplish Nada’s operational daily goals and broader mission.Reporting to the Managing Partner and working closely with the other operations sub-department managers, this position has a lot of growth potential and the opportunity to lead projects. This role will mainly work out of our warehouse/office in Olympic Village with some opportunity for remote work. Working in a start-up environment, adaptability and flexibility are a must and the Junior Buyer can expect to wear a variety of hats and perform various tasks and responsibilities, collaborate with internal and external parties and help us adjust, update, and grow the role as the organization develops. Being comfortable with change, adaptable, and excited by the prospect of job crossover, cross training & functionality is essential. Were looking for someone who wants to jump in where needed and gain experience in a rapidly changing and growing impact business!Specific Responsibilities

  • Manage all buying and procurement processes from start to finish, including categories, margins, pricing, invoices, supplier relationships, contract negotiations, any relevant data managment, accurate costing, and processing price changes as applicable overseen by the Managing Partner.
  • Maintain all product and supplier databases, purchase records, order data, pricing, and related product and supplier documentation; manage flow and all internal processes surrounding inventory
  • Use customer data to determine new products to consider. Seek out new suppliers and contact existing suppliers in order to source new products. Oversee the sampling process.
  • Serve as the main point of contact with suppliers, maintaining positive relationships. Meet with suppliers as needed to review and discuss supply chain issues, opportunities for improvement and collaboration, and anything else that is necessary.
  • Streamline the onboarding process for all new suppliers to ensure all new product rollouts are smooth, providing the necessary information to store and warehouse teams when onboarding a new product so all relevant information and storage considerations are disseminated effectively.
  • Perform daily ordering to maintain optimal inventory levels at warehouse, online store, and retail store; work closely with store and warehouse managers to keep up appropriate stock levels and provide just-in-time deliveryDetermine and coordinate inventory to be promoted or sold at a discount, donated, or otherwise disposed of.
  • Forecast demand and evaluate inventory reorder levels and quantity price breaks to determine the most economical purchasing inventory and supplies in relationship to the organizations cost of capital.
  • Resolve supply issues, delivery discrepancies, and other issues, working closely with various other departments such as receiving, warehouse, store, finance, and others; general problem solving and inter-departmental collaboration.
  • Assist with projects such as selling ‘B2B’ and shipping, being an integral part in regards to inventory, ordering, and sourcing.
  • Work with digital team to manage website and Shopify product crossover such as communicating about out-of-stock items, product info, sizing options, photographs, etcetera.
  • Receive and process supplier invoices, resolving invoice discrepancies with suppliers in conjunction with the finance department.
  • Prepare monthly reports and review forecast of purchasing plans/commitments with the Finance team
  • Any and all other duties, tasks, and responsibilities reasonably required for the role
Desired Qualifications & Skills.
  • Minimum 1-3 years experience working as a purchaser or inventory or product specialist, preferably in the grocery or food industry
  • Supply Chain Management diploma (or equivalent courses or education) is an asset
  • Thrives in a fast-paced start-up environment; you’re looking for challenges and to get involved with various areas of the business. Youre a team player willing to go the extra mile and help out in a variety of ways.
  • You’re willing to adapt, wear multiple hats, and you can maintain a positive and solutions-oriented mindset in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Interest in sustainability and ethical sourcing practices is a must
  • Experience working with Shopify is a strong asset
  • Data management experience; you’re comfortable with basic spreadsheet functions and won’t run for the hills when faced with a formula
  • Experience managing the flow of product and maintaining an inventory tracking system
  • A self-starter with a sense of urgency and detail orientation; you take initiative, troubleshoot, solve problems and make improvements. You keep track of small details while seeing the big picture.
  • Exceptional customer service and people skills; demonstrated ability to engage and wow suppliers in every interaction
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a team-oriented environment and collaborate with various departments and parties both internal and external
Compensation, Benefits, and Work Environment
  • $45,000 - $55,000 annual salary
  • 20% staff discount on all groceries
