Job Description

As the Landscape Construction Lead Hand at The Great Canadian Landscaping Company you will be a key to our success producing award-winning landscapes and outdoor living spaces. From assisting your landscape team and resources to achieve the timely, efficient completion of Landscape Construction projects you are an integral part of our operations. You will be take part in the execution of the day-to-day tasks on site as well as working with the installation crew to keep projects on schedule in conjunction with your Foreperson and Project Manager. As a Lead Hand you will provide ongoing mentorship and support to your team with the intent on improving employee productivity and creating additional value for the company in Landscape Construction operational areas. General Job InformationWages: $22-28 per hourFull time - Landscape Construction and CarpentryMonday - Friday 7:30 am - 5pmHours: 40+ hours per weekThe following are the Job Duties for the position: Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist the Landscape Install Foreperson with the execution of landscape construction projects
  • Assist with managing safety, quality and productivity of work at sites and/or shop/yard
  • Assist in the preparation of job sites prior to the beginning of a project
  • Read and interpret, drawings, and specifications to delegate/complete work activities
  • Assist with the installation of Residential and Commercial Landscape Construction projects with tasks that include: Paving Stone and Natural Stone Installs, Rock Walls, Retaining Walls, Driveways, Walkways, Decks, pergolas & fences, Lawn and Garden Installations etc.
  • When required supervise the day to day work activities of a landscape construction crew of 2 to employees
  • Delegate job tasks to appropriate crew members to assist in the completion of landscape constructions when required
  • Operate various tools and equipment, including: heavy equipment, cut-off saws, jackhammers, laser levels, measurement equipment, shovels, hammers, drills, etc.
  • Move and transport materials using shovels, wheelbarrows, carts, dollies and manual lifting
  • Perform other manual duties to clean and maintain landscaped environments, shop and equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment by conducting inspections, lubricating, and cleaning on a daily basis
  • Complete electronic time sheets for all crew members when required
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
  • Comply with all company policies and regulations
  • Maintain and enforce standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned trucks, trailers, equipment, job sites, and shop/yard areas
  • Ensure that all work activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner, and that all crew members are in compliance with government and company PPE standards
  • Enforce and work in accordance with all local health and safety laws and regulations at shop/yard and on job sites
  • Communicate with customers in a polite and courteous manner
Education
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Post-Secondary Education an asset
  • Horticulture Technology Diploma an asset
Experience
  • 2+ years’ experience in a Landscape Installation Lead Hand position or
  • 5+ years in a Landscape Installation Assistant position
Skills
  • Expert mentorship and leadership skills
  • You are detail oriented and like multi-tasking
  • Competent in the use of power tools (cut-off saws, plate tampers, jackhammers, skill saws, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of specific materials, methods, tools and equipment required to complete various landscape/construction practices
  • Advanced measurement and calculation skills
  • Ability to follow safe working procedures
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision and as part of a team
