Are you an entrepreneurial privacy specialist with 5-7 years of experience, looking for a key role in a pre-IPO, hyper-growth unicorn Do you love to align legal strategy with business goals and deliver creative, pragmatic solutions to drive resultsJob SummaryAs Manager - Privacy & Data Governance you will act as a primary data steward and engage deeply on emerging, technology-oriented privacy and data governance issues relating to all aspects of our business and operations, including mobile and other applications, public-facing websites, internal data, contracts, policies, training, investigations, industry self-regulation, external regulations, and legislation.What You Will Be Doing

  • Lead efforts and programs towards compliance with privacy and data protection laws and self-governing frameworks in existing and emerging markets.
  • Monitor and advise on new, forthcoming, and evolving applicable global laws and regulations.
  • Escalate any legal, regulatory, or reputational risk to the General Counsel and other business unit leaders.
  • Provide support in connection with policy, government relations, and legislation related to privacy and data governance.
  • Coordinate internal privacy and data governance structures.
  • Develop and maintain data inventory and mapping for existing and new products and functions.
  • Maintain internal and external data privacy policies, procedures, and templates.
  • Assess and make recommendations to the business units (including Product, Engineering, IT, and Information Security teams) for improving privacy and data governance practices.
  • Draft and negotiate privacy and data security contracts, including data processing agreements and other related instruments.
  • Advise on privacy issues in commercial agreements.
  • Design and administer general and function-specific training in these fields.
  • Assess and implement technology and resources to support these programs.
  • Identify and complete applicable foreign privacy registrations.
  • Help manage record retention and destruction policies and procedures.
  • Help manage security incidents and data breach plans.
  • Develop, articulate, and monitor key performance indicators.
  • Lead or help manage internal and external audits.
  • Manage privacy impact assessments, working with IT and other business units where necessary, for new products, tools, and processes.
  • Support and develop the company culture around privacy and data security by design.
  • Maintain a high personal standard of service and performance by actively participating in other duties as assigned, education seminars, training programs, and professional development.
About You
  • Expertise in interpreting and applying global data protection laws and regulations, including an in-depth understanding of GDPR, PIPEDA, CCPA, and other US state laws.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in data protection and privacy, preferably in the software, technology, and/or security industries.
  • BA, MA, JD/LLB, and/or LLM in relevant fields.
  • CIPP qualification strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, able to communicate effectively with and provide direction to leaders and employees at every level of organization.
  • Ability to exercise good business judgment and balance legal considerations with business objectives.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to quickly analyze large volumes of complex information.
  • Collaborative, positive attitude, able to deal with diverse challenges in a calm, courteous, and effective manner.
  • Demonstrated discretion in handling privileged and confidential information.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet competing deadlines, including assignments involving complex issues, conflicting priorities, and multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with data subjects, data protection authorities and other controllers and processors across industries and cultures.
  • Adequate self-awareness and confidence to acknowledge knowledge gaps and seek to fill them from reliable sources.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in organizational priorities.
