The Manager, Professional Conduct is responsible for the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the M&E program. In addition, the Manager Professional Conduct provides support to the Investigations group as directed by the Deputy Chief Legal Officer (Deputy CLO).The duties of this position include:

  • providing leadership, guidance and direction in respect to the M&E program;
  • responsibility for hiring, training, managing, supporting, and supervising M & E staff;
  • ensuring effective and efficient processes for monitoring and enforcing compliance with disciplinary hearing panel orders, consent agreement orders, voluntary undertakings and Rule 3-5 administrative suspensions;
  • overseeing the process for Rule 3-5 administrative suspensions being issued;
  • preparing and managing the M&E group operational budget;
  • as directed by the Deputy CLO, assisting in providing guidance to staff in conducting complaint investigations;
  • conducting a reasonable caseload of complaint investigations;
  • assisting with development of policy initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of regulatory processes and outcomes and working together with the Policy group on those matters as needed;
  • working closely with the CLO, Deputy CLO and other regulatory managers on strategic regulatory initiatives and in monitoring trends impacting regulatory matters;
  • collaborating with other Law Society departments to ensure there is effective communication and information sharing where appropriate;
  • preparing and presenting reports on the M&E work;
  • responding to communications from lawyers and the public related to M&E work;
  • supporting the Director, Intake & Early Resolution and Practice Standards and the Deputy CLO, as necessary, including coverage for absences;
  • participating in speaking engagements and educational sessions as appropriate; and
  • such other duties as the Deputy CLO or Chief Legal Officer may require.
Qualifications
  • Practising membership in the Law Society of BC or eligibility for membership. A minimum of eight years of relevant practice experience including regulatory experience conducting investigations.
  • Superior judgment and analytical skills coupled with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management and attention to detail.
  • Prior management experience or leadership training is an asset.
