Job Description

JOB TITLE: Manager, Taxation, Treasury & PayrollLOCATION: Canada (Remote)REPORTS TO: VP, FinanceDEPARTMENT: Corporate Operations > Financial ServicesJOB SUMMARY:A leadership role within Finance, providing line management support to the Payroll team, while supporting Alimentiv’s global taxation, treasury and payroll activities. The incumbent is responsible for managing and ensuring the adoption of best practices in the areas of global taxation, treasury and payroll on a global basis.ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:Taxation

  • Responsible for global tax function including tax planning and strategy
  • Manage global tax compliance, tax/credit return preparation, tax audit responses
  • Monitor and manage tax remittances made to, and reconcile notices received from authorities
  • Work with cross-functional teams and business leaders to assist with tax planning initiatives and special projects
  • Help ensure that tax related policies and procedures are meeting regulatory requirements
  • Co-ordinate the filing of Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax credits
  • Communicate to project and research teams the value and requirements of the SR&ED program
  • Manage the filing strategy of the SR&ED program in conjunction with the treasury strategy
  • Work with external tax advisor to ensure adherence re transfer pricing compliance
  • Liaise with external auditors and/or external tax advisors during annual audits of financial statements to support their review of tax provisions, deferred tax assets, valuation allowances and tax-related financial disclosures
  • Assist with evaluating tax risks and developing tax planning solutions for strategic transactions and special projects
Treasury
  • Monitor cash and investments including cash projections
  • Work with financial institution to recommend appropriate decisions regarding investments and foreign exchange in accordance with investment policy statement
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation within the corporate treasury function, including managing short-term investments and intercompany operations
  • Adhere to and promote treasury / accounting controls by following policies, principles, procedures, complying with federal, provincial, and local financial and legal requirements
Payroll
  • Payroll management and review
  • Evaluate and manage payroll systems and related data flow
  • Assist with payroll tax related questions, including cross border employee tax issues
  • Implement process, enhance documentation, identify, and create system improvements, and help identify risks and drive efficient internal processes
  • Support the accounting and allocations of monthly payroll amounts
Supervision of Payroll and Payments Team
  • In conjunction with VP, Finance, ensure the Payroll & Payments team is adequately staffed, including hiring and terminations
  • Ensure staff have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform in their respective roles
  • Address performance management issues with employees, with the support of Human Resources as required
  • Provide regular, timely performance feedback to direct reports
  • Complete annual performance and salary review processes for direct reports
  • Set annual performance goals for the Accounts Payable team and ensure the team achieves these goals
QUALIFICATIONS:The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a University Degree/College Diploma + 4-6 years of related experience. The candidate will possess strong knowledge of Canadian, US and International tax regulations and previous payroll experience with a global business. The ideal candidate should be a passionate passionate subject matter expert willing and able to work independently on multiple projects / tasks with varying degrees of complexity. Strong collaboration skills required with colleagues at all levels of the organization. Excellent communication skills and ability to convey complex technical issues to senior management as required.
