Job Title Media Resources TechnicianJob DescriptionPermanent Full -Time PositionHours to be Determined (Work will be on Campus)Pay Grade F ($48,459 to $51,881 per annum)Emily Carr University of Art + Design is a school of students, faculty, thinkers and makers unlike any other. Our strategy, facilities, partnerships and resources are intentionally student-centred to foster dialogue, expression and open connections in support of the next generation of creative and cultural leaders.As the Media Resources Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the University’s Media Resources equipment distribution area used by students, staff, and faculty.Some Typical Duties:

  • Assists students, staff, and faculty by checking media equipment in and out using the Reservation and Distribution Database System. Under the direction of the Media Resources Coordinator and the Media Resources Lead Technician, maintains the system, and troubleshoots day to day operation. Ensures data is up to date, adjusts bookings for maximum flexibility and runs daily reports on equipment bookings and late returns.
  • Responds to general inquiries from students, staff, and faculty regarding Media Resources equipment use, policies, and procedures. Refers requests for complex operational instructions to the appropriate Studio Technician.
  • Oversees equipment distributed from Media Resources. Examines returned equipment for damaged and/or missing parts. Troubleshoots simple equipment faults and effects minor repairs (i.e. batteries, bulbs, screws, and menu settings). Performs tests to ensure proper function and cleans equipment. Reports more complex equipment issues to Senior Media Resources Technician.
  • Consults with Technicians in other areas to ensure equipment distributed by Media Resources is maintained and operational. Provides information to other Studio Technicians on equipment repair updates, user problems, and usage information. May refer to Studio Technicians on questions of student equipment access, bookings or equipment authorizations.
  • Assists the Media Resources Coordinator and Media Resources Lead Technician on training new staff. May participate in the hiring of new department staff.
  • Assists the Media Resources Coordinator and the Media Resources Lead Technician in preparing Media Resources policies and procedures documentation (i.e. forms, signs and website content).
  • Under the direction of the Media Resources Coordinator and the Media Resources Lead Technician, organizes and maintains the storage of media equipment and supplies. Creates kits for the transportation and storage of new equipment for distribution. Edits and prepares supporting instructional documents for new equipment in collaboration with PHOT, FVIM, and FNDT Technicians. Assists in compiling statistics on equipment inventory and use of Media Resources.
  • Participates in the set up and take down of media equipment for the Graduation Exhibition and special events.
Required Qualifications
  • Two-Year Diploma in a media related field (i.e. audio, film/video, photography).
  • Minimum three years related experience working with a wide variety of media equipment, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
  • Minimum three years working experience with film, video, lighting and sound production equipment.
  • Minimum two years working experience with digital and analogue photography cameras and portable photography lighting equipment.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and demonstrate the use of media equipment to students, staff, and faculty with widely varying technical backgrounds.
  • Well-developed organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to create and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Knowledge of computer basics (i.e. Microsoft Office and email).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as perform as a team player.
  • Physical stamina and mobility to permit lifting, carrying and moving heavy objects.
