Apply today to join our team!As a Mental Health Program Assistant with VCH you will:Provide administrative, secretarial and clerical support.Transcribe and type a variety of medical dictation and other documentation utilizing word processing and spreadsheet software.Act as a receptionist; answer phones, determine urgency of calls and refer to staff.Greet clients; provide resource information and respond to various inquires.Compile, prepare and maintain statistical records for workload monitoring and program planning.Receive referrals, schedule and/or confirm client’s appointments, receive clients and provide information.Type material such as correspondence, psychiatric and physician assessments, discharge reports, memos, minutes, promotional material.Edit transcribed material for stylistic consistency and accuracy; identify medical and verbal inconsistencies in dictation and make corrections/resolve problems.QUALIFICATIONS:Education & ExperienceGrade 12, graduation from an approved program in Medical Transcription and/or Medical Office Administration Certificate plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Knowledge & AbilitiesAbility to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writingPhysical ability to carry out the duties of the positionKnowledge of community, social and mental health resourcesKnowledge and experience in providing culturally competent support services specifically pertaining to aboriginal peopleKnowledge and experience in Trauma Informed Practice, Harm Reduction and Recovery Oriented careAbility to work independently and in cooperation with othersAbility to operate related equipmentAbility to organize and prioritizeAbility to keyboard 6,000 keystrokes per hour.Ability to type at 60 wpmBusiness writing skillsKnowledge of general office proceduresAbility to establish and maintain rapport with clientsKnowledge of medical terminologyThe hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
