Job Description

Pclass # SS182Job SummaryThis position is responsible for helping to design, build, implement, optimize and maintain both cloud and on premise servers across the enterprise. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all corporate servers, associated software, and communication links. This person will also troubleshoot on premise and cloud and network performance issues, as well as analyze network traffic and provide capacity-planning solutions for both wired and wireless networks. This role is to assist both server administrator as well as network administrator with basic to mid-tier functions.Job Duties/ResponsibilitiesStrategy & Planning1. Helps develop and implement policies for network and sever maintenance. Helps with network and server component inventory, related documentation, and technical specifications information.Acquisition & Deployment2. Plans and implements any improvement, modification, or replacement of servers and network infrastructure components.3. Plans and manages budgeting for network hardware and software procurement.4. Conducts research on cloud servers, network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.5. Interacts and negotiates with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure server/network products and services.6. Develops and implements policies, procedures, and associated training for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery.7. Establishes connectivity and uptime service level agreements.Operational Management8. Monitors and analyzes network and server performance across the organization’s Cloud, LANs, WANs, and wireless deployments.9. Sets up and maintains enterprise wide system and application monitoring tools and reports on uptime.10. Acts as a first level escalation point for user issues coming from Client Services team.11. Ensures the stable operation and efficient performance of company servers and networks.12. Monitors system capacity to determine its effect on performance and recommend enhancements to meet new or changing network demands.13. Identifies and remedies server and network performance bottlenecks.14. Configures and troubleshoots servers, including e-mail, print and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software.15. Installs and configures all servers, network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, wireless radios, etc.16. Inspects, maintains, and where necessary coordinates network cabling repair, voice/data jacks, and other network-related equipment.17. Ensures network and IP connectivity of all workstations, application servers, and back-end office infrastructure.QualificationsEducation and Experience

  • Completion of a 3-year College diploma program with specific training in computer systems (hardware and software) and over 4 years’ related experience. Sound knowledge of basic cloud concepts required. An equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.
Skills and Abilities
  • Extensive hands-on technical knowledge of cloud computing, network systems, protocols, and standards such as Ethernet, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, ATM, T1, 802.11x, and so on.
  • Knowledge of network management and analysis tools, such a Wireshark, fluke, etc.
  • Extensive client/server and operating system experience with all main operating system platforms, with focus on Microsoft systems.
  • Strong operational, hand-on working knowledge of the Microsoft Azure Platform.
  • Experience working in a switched and routed environment.
  • Hardware, software, and network connection troubleshooting experience.
  • Working technical knowledge of current server and network hardware.
  • Skilled at installing/configuring hubs, switches, routers, bridges, etc.
  • Knowledge of current anti-virus software, current firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and other network security measures.
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Highly self motivated and directed.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Shift change or overtime outside of regular work days/hours will be required for scheduled system maintenance with advanced notices, and for emergency work on short notice.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to crawl, kneel or reach to inspect cables in floors and ceilings.
  • Ability to lift and transport moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
