We recognize the vast cultural diversity of Indigenous people and acknowledgethe heterogeneity of their opinions, representation, needs and desires.The Older Adult Men’s Group Facilitator will work collaboratively with the Navigation and Peer SupportCoordinator and members of the South Vancouver Seniors Hub Council, under the leadership of theDirector of Seniors’ Programs to achieve the goals and objectives of the Men’s Group program. The aim isto create a safe and welcoming space for older men to gather and to share common problems andexperiences. The facilitator will create an environment for older adult men to build social connectionsand to talk with other men who understand what they are going through and can share the type ofpractical insights that can only come from firsthand experience. The position requires the use of a homeoffice, including a personal phone and computer.Program Description and Role Overview: South Vancouver Neighborhood House and the SouthVancouver Seniors Hub Council are working in partnership to provide a new program for older men thatis respectful and tailored to meet the needs of older men living in the Sunset, Victoria-Fraserview andKillarney neighborhoods. We are looking for a skilled, motivated, and experienced facilitator that canplan, implement, and evaluate a twelve-session pilot with each session two hours in length including ashared meal. The in-person, participant driven program, will be facilitated in English, and preferably bescheduled on Wednesday mornings starting on October 5th and ending December 21st. The role requiresthe ability to conduct targeted outreach designed to reach and connect men to the program. From timeto time, it may also require additional duties.Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated competence in group facilitation
  • Experience collaborating directly with older adult men seniors and volunteers in a multicultural
environment
  • Knowledge of issues and challenges that older adult men face as well
  • Knowledge of South Vancouver neighbourhood and community resources available for older men
is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Ability to be adaptive and quick-on-your-feet
  • Ability to exhibit high energy and to motivate and inspire participants

  • Must be willing to learn from participants and create an inclusive program for all participants
  • Ability to set and enforce appropriate boundaries in relationships with and among program
participants
  • Excellent inter-cultural communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build effective relationships with culturally
diverse community residents, volunteers, staff, and community service providers
  • Appreciation for and understanding of the lived experience of diverse communities including
acknowledgement that diversity comes in many forms including but not limited to LGBTQ2S+,cultural, ethnic, BIPOC, faith-based, and physical and cognitive abilities
  • Written and verbal English skills
  • Second language representative of Southeast Vancouver such as Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi,
Hindi, Spanish and Farsi would be considered an asset
  • Good time management, organizational and administrative skills
  • Experience in word processing, database, publishing, and internet research is an asset
NOTE: This position requires contact with the vulnerable members of the community, thereforeinterested candidates must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and successful Criminal record check arerequired prior to the program start date.A stipend of $250 per session will be provided, this includes all administration, planning andimplementation of the pilot program. The facilitator must be onsite 3 hours per week, to set up, deliverand clean up after each session.
