Job Description

We thank them for having cared for this land since time immemorial, honour their graciousness to the students who seek knowledge here, and iterate our dedication to valuing the ongoing contributions of Indigenous peoples and communities.Primary Purpose Reporting to the Intermediate Accountant, the Payroll Assistant will provide a variety of clerical and payroll functions within the Finance Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing and verifying a high volume of payroll duties on -time and with accuracy.Specific Responsibilities The Payroll Assistant is responsible for the following as well as other related duties as assigned to support the business objectives and purpose of the University:Payroll Cycle

  • Process full cycle bi-weekly payroll for around 800 employees and growing and amongst several different entities in various departments
  • Review new hire entries into payroll system and verify source documents
  • Respond to payroll queries from employees, management, and external parties
  • Responsible for preparation of T4’s , ROE’s and T2200 forms
  • Prepare WCB & EHT submission working papers
  • Reconcile month-end duties such as vacation accrual, payroll clearing, etc.
  • Review and approve all the payroll related invoices
  • Prepare all payroll and benefit intercompany invoices
  • Process bonus payment
Benefits & RRSP
  • Develop working knowledge in the benefits provided by the group
  • Administer and respond to any benefit questions from employees
  • RRSP Enrollment and queries
Administration
  • Maintain and update SOP and payroll process flow chart
  • Recommend, design, and execute payroll improvement initiatives as needed
  • Answer payroll related inquiries
  • Other miscellaneous tasks as required
Position RequirementsCompetencies:
  • The ability to communicate effectively and work with various individuals and department needs
  • A positive attitude allowing them to understand the issue and develop solutions
  • A willingness to learn and who takes pride in their work
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality
Education and Experience:
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of Payroll legislation and procedures
  • A minimum of one year of experience in payroll and benefits
  • Experiences with ADP Workforce is preferred
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) (in progress or completion) is preferred
  • Proficient with Office 365 (Teams, Word, Excel etc.)
  • Working knowledge ADP Workforce
