This 113-year-old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of over $70 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams: the 15-day annual summer Fair and winter Fair which average more than 700,000 people annually, Playland amusement park which welcomes 400,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, and a busy year-round portfolio of events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events. In total we bring over 2 million people through the site each year. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance. The Payroll Assistant will work under the direction of the Manager and provide general payroll administration and data entry support for the department in varying capacities. They will work in compliance with all health and safety requirements as determined by WorkSafeBC, and all other applicable legislation and company policies.Why join our Team

What will you do this yearIn your role as a Payroll Assistant, your primary accountabilities will be to:
  • Review payroll timesheets to ensure information is complete and in compliance with the appropriate collective agreement terms and PNE policies/procedures.
  • Process timesheets by inputting and/or approving time into the PNE’s payroll system; and liaise with Departments to fix any errors found.
  • Assist the Payroll & Benefits Coordinator in setting up new hires and processing transfers in Tracker and UltiPro; contact department managers or new employees for any missing or incomplete information and/or documents.
  • Set up or update direct deposit information; and follow up with employee(s) when direct deposit is rejected from the bank.
  • Provide customer service to employees in person, by phone or email for any payroll inquiries regarding their pay and/or benefits.
  • Review time and transaction reports for part-time and seasonal employees for each pay period.
  • Perform general office work, administrative support and other related duties as required.
What else
  • Must have successfully completed Grade 12 or a Post-Secondary Diploma/course work.
  • Must have proficiency in computer applications including but not limited to MS Office Suite with a minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute.
  • Payroll experience, time entry and/or knowledge of payroll procedures/practices is an asset.
  • General office experience within a team environment is preferred.
  • Ability to function with some independence and under pressure; and ability to meet multiple service demands and deadlines.
  • Must have a keen attention to detail with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to assist PNE staff in a congenial and friendly manner.
  • Ability to take directions and follow through on assigned work.
  • Ability to deal with confidential matters and use discretion.
  • Ability to work as part of a team to maintain continuity within the department.
  • Must be available to work between 4 -7 hours per shift and up to 5 shifts per week.
  • Must be available to work up to 35 hours per week from June through September
  • Successful candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
