Philanthropy Officer, Major GiftsLocation: VancouverReporting to: Manager, PhilanthropyJob status: permanent, full-time 1.0 FTE (75 hours bi-weekly)Canuck Place Children’s Hospice (CPCH) is British Columbia’s recognized pediatric palliative care provider. For over two decades, through the many programs and services we provide, we have made a significant difference in the lives of children with life-threatening illnesses and the families who love them. Canuck Place Children’s Hospice also has a ‘Care For the Caregiver’ committee who provides ongoing, creative activities to connect us with one another as a reminder that it’s ‘this’ moment that really counts.SUMMARYWorking closely with and reporting to the Manager, Philanthropy, the Philanthropy Officer is responsible for engaging a portfolio of current and prospective individual and corporate major gift donors as well as over-seeing the Canuck Place Family Giving Program. This program will provide a unique opportunity for families to honour their children through donations designated to facets of our program that are meaningful to them and their experience, while also fitting into the parameters of our fundraising, budgetary and organizational rules.This role is ideal for a candidate who is passionate both about stewardship of established donors, and of finding new prospects with whom to share the goals of Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.Through cultivation and stewardship of relationships, the successful candidate will utilize moves management techniques to transition donors up the giving pyramid. This is an exciting opportunity for a compassionate self-starter with a high-growth vision to build upon existing momentum at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.We are seeking a candidate who has experience working face-to-face with individuals and can lead solicitations that are built on a clear understanding of donors’ interests, passions and values that align with those of Canuck Place.RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees the Canuck Place Family Giving program; supports families through their giving journey with compassion, and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members ensuring best practices.
  • As the overseeing team member of the Family Giving Program, operates with great discretion in accordance with the wishes of each Canuck Place family member.
  • Builds relationships with community stakeholders, such as individual donors, Donor Advised Fund-dispersing organizations, foundations, individual supporters, and more, to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization.
  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards a portfolio of approximately 200 individual prospective and current donors.
  • Seeks portfolio growth by reaching out to new donor prospects, and moving existing donors up the giving pyramid.
  • Conducts research and identification of new individual, foundation, and community prospects with a view to engaging new donors in existing or new initiatives.
  • Develops and manages timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fundraising processes are carried out in a timely manner.
  • Applies a disciplined moves management approach and customizes strategies for each relationship that encourages multi-year commitments and stretch gifts.
  • Actively utilizes prospect research tools to identify new relationships.
  • Develops strategic proposals based on short, intermediate, and long-term funding goals of the organization to reach or exceed annual revenue targets.
  • Monitors & and evaluates activity and results; identifies challenges and manages up where required.
  • Plays a lead role in soliciting, closing and stewarding significant gifts.
  • Works collaboratively with a cross-functional team to plan and host engaging events.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • The successful incumbent will possess a related degree or diploma from a recognized educational institute or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • In addition, a minimum of 3 years of progressive non-profit fundraising experience is necessary, including experience managing a major gifts portfolio.
  • Involvement with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is an asset.

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills; a high degree of professionalism and the ability to confidently interact and build trust with individuals and stakeholders all levels.
  • Strong attention to detail. Excellent analytical, presentation and research skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines as well as adjust and adapt to changing conditions and/or priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite computer skills, and experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar donor database management system.
  • Clear and valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle are preferred.
