The team is part of the Integrated Sewer and Drainage Planning (ISDP) branch in the Urban Watersheds, Sewers, and Drainage division of the Engineering Services department. The role reports to the Senior Watershed Planner in the team. The Planning Analyst – Watershed Urban Design will support urban design work related primarily to green rainwater infrastructure, nature-based flood mitigation, and watercourse enhancement, but may also include grey sewer and drainage infrastructure planning. Watershed urban design seeks to explore, develop, and integrate watershed-scale solutions into the public realm.Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and conduct technical research, surveys and analysis on topics of moderate complexity, including undertaking relevant field observations and notes and verifying accuracy of the content and field investigations;
  • Provide mapping and graphics support;
  • Manage data for the Branch, including collection, tracking, and reporting;
  • Develop conceptual geometric designs in AutoCAD under the supervision of design engineers and landscape architects;
  • ArcGIS Pro spatial analysis;
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, plans and Council reports.
  • Organize meetings and events, support public engagement and stakeholder processes, participate in and minute public events and staff meetings.
  • Prepare communication and presentation materials;
  • Respond to public inquiries; and
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.
QualificationsEducation and Experience:Post-secondary education in planning, urban studies, sustainability, engineering technology, environmental sciences, landscape architecture, or related field and experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of integrated rainwater management and green infrastructure policy, planning, design, and/or operations.
  • Experience conducting research, collecting and analyzing data, performing field studies and providing technical, communications and/or logistical support for design, planning , research and/or policy development projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills. Experience working collaboratively and effectively on inter-disciplinary teams, with staff across City departments, and with contractors, consultants, outside agencies, industry stakeholders and the public.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to (1) manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time (2) set and meet deadlines, and (3) adapt to emerging or changing priorities.
  • Experience developing communication materials for workshops, meetings or presentations and supporting stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Experience with mapping, design and 3d modelling such as ArcGIS Pro, Rhino and Sketch Up.
  • Strong knowledge or skills in using computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD and software for graphic design and mapping such as MapInfo and the Adobe suite of software for map and graphical representations.
  • Ability to work independently and to provide support and advice while functioning effectively in a team environment.
Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program.
