This position would provide technical and professional support related to the implementation of the Vancouver Plan, including support for the development of related policy and regulatory initiatives, research, and engagement activities.This position reports to a Planner II with support and oversight from a Senior Planner. The position will work collaboratively with colleagues across City departments and will interact with members of the public and stakeholders.Specific Duties and Responsibilities Duties will include:

  • Conducting surveys, research and analysis tasks (quantitative and qualitative data) related to community plans and the monitoring of public benefit strategies.
  • Preparing graphics work to be used internally and externally.
  • Preparing maps and other supportive material.
  • Preparing mailing lists, notifications and other materials for public meetings.
  • Facilitating and/or taking detailed minutes for small group discussions, receiving and summarizing public comments
  • Maintaining web pages and social media accounts, e-mail and list-serv functions
  • Convening and collaborating with other City agencies to facilitate the delivery of community plan public benefits identified and prioritized through a community planning process.
  • Performing other related duties/responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:Education and Experience:
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent supplemented by related courses in building related issues such as design, construction, permitting etc.
  • Sound experience as a Planning Assistant II preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current Planning experience preferred.
  • University degree in Planning would be considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently, on teams, and with the public, to complete assignments using sound professional techniques and judgment.
  • Proven ability to self-manage workload and meet time demands.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated sound research and analytical abilities and experience.
  • Working knowledge of zoning and land-use planning and regulations, land development economics, public space planning, and urban design principles.
  • Further knowledge of community planning topics, including housing, public space, transportation, retail, social and cultural planning, is considered beneficial.
  • Sound knowledge and experience with GIS and mapping, including ArcGIS.
  • Working knowledge of Illustrator, InDesign, Sketch Up (3D Software), and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of a second language is considered an asset, but not required.
  • Ability to meet transportation requirements
Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work remotely 1 – 4 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite.
