En route to the community of Egmont, you won’t want to miss Ruby and Sakinaw lakes, with great beaches for afternoons out with the kids!A 90-minute drive up the Sunshine Coast from the ferry port of Langdale, an hour long ferry ride to Powell River, or a quick 10 minutes from the Earls Cove ferry, working at Lafarge’s Earle Creek site offers amazing adventures in all directions.Position OverviewThe Plant Manager is accountable for the leadership, development & management of all functions of the gravel extraction and processing as well as the quarry rock extraction and processing. The Plant Manager will ensure lean staffing and oversee safe production to enable plant productivity and maintenance in an efficient manner, while producing quality products for clients. The primary focus will be on safety and optimizing available reserves and capital employed while maximizing productivity at the lowest cost of production.This is a full time, salaried opportunity. The incumbent would be expected to relocate to Earl Cove/Egmont area.Responsibilities:Health and Safety:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas. Promotes a positive safety culture through safety leadership
  • Ensure strict compliance with all health and safety rules and country regulations
  • Implementation and management of all safety initiatives
  • Maintain safety processes and procedures up to date
  • Exceeds expectations for safety initiatives
  • Ensure the Contactor Safety Management (Avetta) program is strictly followed for all contractors on the site including prequalification, monitoring, documenting and reviewing contractor safety.
Financial Management:
  • Promotes a culture of performance and exceeding expected results
  • Drive and track financial performance via monthly operation forecast.
    • Complete operations forecast for Day 14 and month end review, ensure all costs are accounted for and are accurate.
    • Participate in month end review of previous months results
    • Participate in monthly inventory, sales & production planning.
  • Effectively develops goals and objectives to implement actions, track performance and continuously look for opportunities for improvement
  • Balance inventory and sales needs to manage and minimize working capital impact
  • Monitors and manages overtime and overtime reductions during slow demands
  • Adhere to purchasing policies, procedures and directives
  • Ensure all SAP System reporting, coding and approvals are completed accurately and on time based on the processes and procedures laid out for this role.
Topline & Customer Focus:
  • Works with sales team to drive customer retention and attraction
  • Drive quality for customer retention
  • Seek opportunities to meet and exceed customer expectations
  • Ensures a quality product within specifications and timely delivery to clients
Site Management:
  • Works closely with peer plant managers and operations manager to develop best practices, processes and to ensure plant activities are optimized and costs are best in class
  • Actively lead on a daily basis on site operations
  • Implement and follow best practices for maintenance, production and shipping processes
  • Implement strategies to achieve target key performance indicators (KPI)
  • Effectively use Lafarge resources and programs to drive operational excellence and assist with the development of GVA Aggregates specific resources as needed
Environment, Land & Community Relations:
  • Run site operations in a way to have minimal negative impact on the surrounding environment and communities
  • Implement and manage operational standards to manage activities and mitigate our environmental impact
  • Develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships with the local communities to ensure Lafarge is seen as a partner in environmental stewardship
  • Work with local regulatory bodies to comply with bylaws
People Management:
  • Provides leadership for operations and office staff located at Earle Creek Aggregates by working closely with crew and foremen and mentor assistant manager
  • Follows the Lafarge HR business cycle (Annual performance review, Annual Objective setting, Individual Development Plans, Mid-Year Reviews, Career & Succession Planning.)
  • Facilitate progressive discipline as required
  • Align people management and training goals to meet business and people needs

Qualifications:Education:
  • Grade 12 diploma and relevant post-secondary education
Experience and Skill Set:
  • 10+ years of proven operational and supervisory experience preferred
  • Proven and sound knowledge of aggregate industry
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Able to analyze financial statements and make recommendations
  • Strong communication, negotiation and change management skills
  • 10+ years of prior work experience in unionized environment
  • Ability to foster and grow a strong safety culture
  • High energy strong leader with ability to influence high performing teams
